Little oil leak...looking for thoughts

I was poking around under the hood this weekend and came across a little bit of an oil seepage up near the valve cover and a little drip below towards the front of the engine. I attached a few pics and would like some opinions.

I started snapping images after I wiped some of the oil off on the area highlighted in the first pic. It was a thin layer of oily black gunk, nothing major but a coating across that area. You can still see a little bit of it towards the bottom of the pic.

The second image is pre-wiping surfaces.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I ended up emailing the pics to my mechanic. He thinks the top pic is the valve cover gasket and the bottom may be due to the oil relief valve. I'm overdue for vanos work and need to take the whip in anyway, so they'll be digging in next week. I'll update the thread with what they find.

Due to the location and smear pattern I guess it's a leaky vanos to head steel gasket.
Had it, fixed it! Good luck with the clean up!

First is probably valve cover and the second is probably chain tensioner gasket.

Any findings? looks like oil leaking from the chain tensioner gasket?

Thanks for holding me accountable on the follow up...

The valve cover gasket and oil relief valve were both replaced and the leak(s) haven't returned. The leak in the first image posted was likely valve cover gasket and second leak was likely oil relief valve.

Hope this helps!
