Are they a perfect fit? Megan Racing Headers

Just picked up a set of Megan Racing Headers for my Z4M and I wanted to know if they are a perfect fit - I know they will bolt up to the section 1, but does it clear the FCAB and all the heat shielding around the engine? Wanted to know if anyone has first hand experience installing these on their car. Thanks!

Depends whether they were the first ones they made or the later ones,
the later ones are a perfect fit.
The first headers they made you have to get all the screws in first but keep them loose, once they all have caught a few threads then start tightening them down equally.

As I remember there was only a couple of holes that were off a bit but enough to make it a nuisance.

I just bought mine new from prestige auto lab so I'm assuming they're a recent batch?

Who knows? I'm not sure Megan is producing them anymore, you could ask the vendor how long they were on the shelf.

Regardless, it's not really an issue just a nuisance.

So, e86nut... how did the purchase work out? I'm going to pull the trigger on this same order for my '06 Z4MR tomorrow. Curious how your purchase worked out for sure.

OK... I found a few other, later posts which seem to confirm you are very happy with the purchase. What sort of tune did you end up going with?

I had 22RPD in Renton, WA do a custom tune! Final power numbers with the airbox + headers was 335WHP

That's awesome... 335whp is nuts for our car without FI. Did you also have them relocate the secondary O2 sensors and EGR, or did you tackle the install yourself?

Another happy megan header owner here. Installed them myself. Was perfect fit. Clears FCAB, all bungs are in proper places, lines up with section 1. Couple years and no cracks I can detect, welds look good. Running Epic tune and engine seems quite very happy. Not sure how much power its putting down but I also have AFE dry filter in stock box, m3 intake elbow and RPI mufflers + air scoop.

One thing to note though. Do not use the included manifold gaskets! Buy genuine bmw.

OK then! Might message you with a few detailed questions the about install process. My order is set to be delivered tomorrow, but it will be a few weeks before I have time to install. And already ordered OEM manifold gaskets and the two that mate up the headers to section 1.

Sure, there's really not a whole lot to it. Seeing from your other thread with some pics you have a quickjack which is a great start. You got height under the car to work with instead of just jack stands.

I tried to install them in my parking garage but could not get the O2 sensors off for the life of me. Ended up getting 22RPD to do the rest of the install. If you're doing the install yourself, make sure you look at this guide for torque specs for the reinforcement plate, etc. https://www.billswebspace.com/BMWZ4M...stallation.htm

Got it. Good reference/website! I also picked up an O2 sensor wrench thing. Will see how that goes.

Using the universal joint to remove the nuts holding the header to the block was priceless advice from billswebspace! The old headers are out, and tomorrow, the new ones will go in.
