Wheel Refinish: Paint or Powder?

Wanting to have my factory wheels redone on my 2006 M Roadster. I believe these to be a painted cast aluminum wheel…I want to maintain the factory look but would like a more durable finish…anybody had them powder coated?

I have the #108 two-piece wheels from BBS. I wanted to take the wheels apart and have the insides powder-coated. It was a lot of money for that (could have bought a set of wheels that amount) so I'm the Z running around with a few nicks in the wheels. The wheels take a lot of abuse driving in Southwest Ohio.

I ended up having them powder coated in a metallic gunmetal…

Previous owner of my "road" Z4MC had the OEM rims powder coated satin black. They look good and have held up fine for 15 years.

On my track Z4MC, I recently painted the Apex Arc-8's in a bronze base coat with a satin clear coat. Also very durable and they're holding up fine to track abuse.

So, either basecoat/clearcoat or powder coat will be durable.
