Oh yeah. I understand how some people can get lots ofuse out of a truck, but I still think MOST people who buy a truck don't actually need one most of the time. Goes back to what I or someone else said earlier, look at what happened to trucks/SUVs in 07-08 when oil prices skyrocketed.

people trip out when it comes to gas prices. take a 20k dollar loss on your truck to save $2/gallon for 8 months then take another loss on the tiny car they can't live with and get back into a truck when prices drop $1. very silly.

Why do you a need smartphone? Why does one person need anything more than a studio apartment? We can go on and on down that line of thinking. And I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to buy/drive what they want.

I get your comparison with "no one needs an M4 either," but at least they are engaging to drive and all that.

I know it's not philosophically consistent, I just think spending $70k+ on a luxury truck "to do truck things, when you actually don't do truck things" is weird. That's all.

Same reason I didn't buy a Camaro SS 1LE, because it's basically an OEM built track car and I knew I was unlikely to take a $55k+ car to the track any reasonable amount of times to justify it.

Not really, that's way more the ZL1 1LE spec, as far as not really DD-able and so on. The SS 1LE is simply the ZL1 chassis, tires, brakes and suspension with the SS engine, to put it simply. The only real difference is the slightly smaller rotors due to lighter weight and that it only came in manual for most of it's years. The great thing about it is it has the suspension and rubber backing it up for the engine, vs many OEM cars that come out with insufficient rubber and suspension.

I know I test drove one a few years ago so I know all about them. It also has all the coolers as well. So even though it has less HP, it's still a purpose built track car.

I didn't say it wasn't DD-able, more that it would be a waste to just DD it. Having tracked sport bikes and cars before, I'm not willing to put in the time/money for it anymore.

The SS gets the same coolers. The very recent "LT1"-spec intended to compete with the stripped Mustang GT spec does not. The ZL1 again is the same car as the SS 1LE, minus the engine. So I guess if you are saying the ZL1 is also a purpose built track car, then yes? But the suspension tune is the same, the rubber is the same, etc. Don't think into it so much. I race it in AutoX amongst a variety of cars and the SS 1LE is not "harder" or more punishing than things like a BMW M4...in fact, quite the opposite. Many of those other cars with lesser chassis and suspension/rubber over-compensate with stiffer suspension to try and make up for it.

I'm not thinking into anything too much, nor did I say the SS 1LE was any harder or more punishing than a BMW M4. You're putting words in my mouth in some weird attempt to say an SS 1LE isn't an OEM built track car.

It absolutely is, even though there is a Camaro with more HP.

Just like I'd say a C7 GS with Z07 package, purpose built track car, even though there is the C7 Z06.

I'm not sure that's the same, is GS with Z07 as stiff/hard as Z06 without the Z07 package?

Both the ZL1 and SS 1LE share the FE4 suspension. In other word, same.

I'm just saying that while a Miata may be an "OEM built track car", the SS 1LE is not overly harsh or aggressive in any way, not compared to contemporary cars and it is in fact softer than many of those. It simply has the rubber to back up the power. Cars like the Mustang GT and LT1 with 255 width tires are a joke for the weight of these cars.

Where did I say it was overly harsh?

All I said, was for me, buying an SS 1LE seemed like a waste because I wouldn't track it.

I'm not sure why you've got on this tangent about refuting things I haven't said.

I'm pretty OCD about my cars so there's no wheels and tires getting thrown into back seats.
It's been about a year and a half since I've sold my Toyota Tundra and I miss that thing. Sure, maybe no one truly "needs" a truck, but as you say, the practicality is unbeatable.

In my case, I own an older house and therefore constantly doing Lowes runs and going to the dump, have 2 big dogs, enjoy biking (road and mountain). Could I make this work at one point when I literally only had 2 door coupes? Sure. Was it a pain? Yes.

There is nothing like being able to road trip or do any errands and know that your truck will take care of you. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with another one again.

I don't see the need for a big pickup in my case but I absolutely see the need for an SUV... more trunk space, higher ground clearance and just more space for passengers. You don't know the comfort until you own one.

I will soon be getting a 2nd fun car to replace my old M2... maybe a new M2/M3 or older Z06 vette that will just sit in the garage... who knows.

The answer to all these problems, other than towing, is a minivan. But no ne wants to admit that.

Don't think a minivan is going to do to well at the ranch, lol.

I was going to offer that a minivan probably wouldn't pull my dump trailer. It also won't haul a sheet of plywood without some serious effort (removing seats, protecting the interior of the van, etc) unless you throw it on the roof and have the driver and passenger hold it while driving home.

Here's a little something for the truck haters.

The back seats of my M760i are as good or better than the fronts, and better than any SVU I've ever been in. My kids prefer it wildly over our escalade. There are some pretty nice sedans out there.

a 760 is a whopping 10 inches longer than an x7 lmao... and gets still less cargo space when the third row is folded... or well, u could instead take 7 people wu... the large sedan market in areas outside of asia is close to dead

So nice you lost 80 grand when you drove it off the lot when new.

Buy a new Escalade for sticker today, sell for a profit.

And the back seats are amazing. I'm 6-4 and all of that is legs. the seat is pretty far back and tilted back too. I can hop in the back seat and the back of the front seat is still 6-8" away from my knees. Enough room to recline my 6-4 self in the massaging back seat.
