grinding sound upon entry

Hello. I've been hearing this grinding sound every time I put weight on the car (getting in and out of the car) or jacking up the car---I think it's coming from the springs, but I'm only 80% sure of that. This has happened since I've gotten the car 6 months ago. As this has never happened to any other car I own, I am beginning to worry. Does this happen to your car?

I have the stock suspension.

I apologize if this subject has been covered--I didn't find it through search. Thanks.

Is it the parking brake perhaps? Corrosion builds up on the drum-in-disc mechanism once in a while, sounds like a creak.

+1. Try getting with and without the brake on.

Yup, that would be the parking brake. Nothing to worry about. Release the e-brake then get in and out of the car or try bouncing the suspension, should stay quiet until you re-engage the e-brake. My e36, both e46's, and e39's did the same thing.

If that is the cause, try once a week, coming to a stop using the handbrake from 25mph or so, it removed that buildup of corrosion on the drum, may alleviate the creaking.

X2. Design aspect of the car and a common concern/mystery for new owners.
