intake temps...

Alright the coolest I've been able to record (using Command Dash) is only about 5 degrees cooler than ambient temps. I removed the rubber cover from the intake behind the kidney grills. It looked liked restricted airflow into the intake.

I was hoping to create something like Dinan ram air intake, or the Eventuri intake.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Also the thought occurred that intake temps are increasing no matter what fro the engine heating the plastic intake piping. Would coating the intake in some kind of heat resistant material be advantageous?

Under hood heat is hard to extract on our cars without hood vents.
One way of lowering IAT entering the motor is to add a water mech system. There are many different systems. I used an AEM.

The answer is "it depends". It depends on how much you can insulate. In effect insulation slows the transfer of heat. If you can get enough in place so that the intake air can remove heat faster than it's being added then you'll achieve cooler intake air. If you can't, it will take longer, but you'll still get to the same temperatures.

Adding the water injection will be far more efficient than adding insulation as it will only take a slight amount of water to get significant cooling since water is 784 times more dense than air.

In reality being only 5 degrees above ambient is pretty darn good!
