another motor mount bolt victim

happened to me the other day. 12/2006 build date.

long story short...

so i was driving the other night and noticed a rattle from the front of the car. very minor, but annoying none the less. after a cold start the next morning, the car is so much louder and vibrating. when i drove it i could feel the vibration through the gas pedal and the front of the car. when i hit a bump, i would hear/ feel a decent clunk. i suspected the motor mounts.

took it to my bmw mechanic asap and told him what i thought it was and sure enough, 2 bolts backed out and one missing. "never thought it would happen to me" as we all say. the right side of my motor was laying on the cross member! so everyone be cautious!

Dave

Was it on the passenger side? My car's build date is very close to yours and I changed my bolts to aftermarket ones preemptively a few months ago---the stock ones were in pretty tight, though.

BTW, we have very similar taste in mods. RPI scoop, oe strut, zhp knob, diablos, 9500ix. =)

im not sure if they were on the passenger side but i assume so, since that is the way my engine was leaning towards. the dealer put new bolts in with loctite.

yup, they are all great proven mods, much more to come!

In a way, at least for me, there is almost a "well that's over and done with" mentality that sometimes comes with these things. I'm glad mine were replaced while I was still under warranty. The TSB is only for the passenger's side bolts so I'm guessing those were the most likely culprits. That doesn't necessarily mean that the driver's side bolts, in some #, weren't replaced or affected as well, though.

i agree completely. luckily i know the mechanic, who happens to be a master tech at my dealership. i asked him to check all the bolts, so i imagine he did.

The car has a 12/2006 build date so it's most likely a MY07.
