rod bearing service cost??
Curious what others have paid recently to get their rod bearings replaced. I'm getting quoted 3K for the job here in San Diego. They provide all the upgraded parts and oil change with this pricing.
I was hoping this was going to cost closer to 2k. Doesn't look like that's going to be the case. :-( Thanks, Rob |

2k is more like what I would expect.
See if you can get a second estimate (if there's somebody else you'd trust).

I provided a kit to my shop, and they charged me 8 hours labor @ $110/hr.
This is the kit: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-assemble...247835439kt10/ So mine was ~$1600. Cheers, Eamonn |

ECS has a complete rod bearing kit for $750. Another $2250 for labor seems crazy.
I'll keep calling around. Thanks for the feedback guys. Rob |

Also did the WPC Kit and agreed with the others in this thread.
Most reputable BMW Independent specialists seem to be be around $110/hr. Mine also threw in a header install and motor mounts for a total of 11 hours.

I got mine done in January. Got the ECS Tuning kit (link above on post #3) on special for $675. The indy shop I took it to charged me $1,239 for labor.

About $1800 for mine, including parts. Believe it was $90/hr.

Done from under the car with the engine dangling from a chain fall and the front suspension and frame member removed to get the oil pan off.
Vanne had a good picture of his being done some time back.

That was what I had paid from Lang out the door last year when I did mine.

thanks guys.
I called around a few places and found better pricing. Escondido German Auto quoted $1800 for the whole job including parts. I'll likely go with them as they're local and from what i can tell, a quality shop. |

IMHO, I would go with Lang if it was only $100 saving. He's well known in building S54 engines. Remember that you're not only shopping prices, but you're also shopping skills. I would rather pay a bit extra to have someone work on my car that see S54 all day long and knows it inside/out than someone who only see one ever couple of months - Just my opinion.

+1 on Lang. It felt very, very good to have LRD take care of my rod bearings when needed. Ended up referring a friend his way as well. Local indie can prob do it fine, but call it reassurance or forum hype, but I was very happy with Lang's service & work.

SD and Irvine isn't that far, IMHO. I'm in Irvine and I used to use Kaiv's services all the time in SD and still plan to use him when I can get a hold of him.

If you go with them, please report back on your experience here. Lang is a known quantity for this job, but always good to hear other options and add to the collective knowledge base.
