Hey buddy,
Did you ever figure out the whole aux cable setup? I have a 2006 e85 no cd changer no navy but with dsp and I'm trying the least complicated and inexpensive way to play my music on the oem head unit I've been looking at the grom aux kit but I was told that I would have to take my Z to the dealer to get reprogrammed for a cd changer seems like a hassle and like it would cost me some coin but I've read that units after 2003 just need a cable from bmw that connects to the rear of the head unit and you can do it that way do you have any knowledge on this or any recommendations thanks for the input in advance

I used the oem ash tray aux. input setup. Plugged it in the back of the radio, it showed up on radio and that was it. I also bought a blue tooth audio car kit as it is called at walmart. (it's a3.5mm plug/receiver unit.) I think it was around $10.00. I have to sync my phone everytime I use it ,I can then play music through my phone to the radio. I don't use it all that much, but works perfect, perfer S54 music/quiet time, there are DIY's on aux. input install, just take your time when removing the vents. (That's the hardest part). This was done on an 06 Z4mr with a cd /no nav.

I have been looking for the OEM ashtray Aux Input cable and apparently it is no longer manufactured. I have not found anyone that stocks it....

If anyone knows different, I'd love to hear about it!

Is it a BMW part? Aux showed on the radio as soon as I plugged it in.

There is no coding even, thats a myth. There has to be an inside option for AUX in your unit already, if not then say goodbye. I am sorry but that's it.
If the AUX option is in and it is hidden, then after pluging in your port the AUX will be visible.
