Oil level check

Hi,

I just took my 2008 3.0si out of winter storage and when I had it fully warmed up, I pressed the small right button between the two pods. It took a minute to register and then gave a reading of ‘+1’.

What does that mean? To add one quart of oil?

Thanks

Thanks Roadroach.

Here is an an update:

Before adding a quart of oil this morning, the yellow oil light would stay on after I turned off the car. I added one quart of oil and the yellow light does not come on after turning off the car but it still says '+1' when I run the oil level system.

Does this mean I should add another quart?

Thanks

Did you have an oil change done before storage? Did they put in 5 or 7 quarts?
Could explain why it’s still showing add one quart.

Drive it (so long as the yellow oil light is OFF). It takes time to 'reset' the oil level system and get an accurate reading and putting a few miles on the car is probably the best way to do it. DON'T just keep adding oil because you don't want to overfill.

Lisa -

There's a really good explanation of the BMW oil level system here:

I only drove the car for about 10 minutes before checking the oil level so I am going to take it out again for a longer drive and then remeasure.

Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it.

Roadroach, you were right.

I drove the car for about 20 minutes and the oil level reading now says OK.

Thanks again.

Lisa -

No problem. I was getting nervous when you mentioned adding another quart of oil. Glad we got that figured out.
