wow at this thread. I know most of you guys are joking, but I know now why people look at BMW drivers differently
By the way, its a simple drive, how hard can it be on your seats/suspension/car/engine? |

If he's your friend, he's more then fair game for some good natured ribbing.
If he likes your car enough, that could motive him to get in shape, so he can buy one for himself.

So far, no one has posted a rider more than 300 pounds. Trust me, I felt like a jerk even thinking my question, much less asking it. But I also wanted to prevent my friend from getting embarrassed, should the seat break. Ya know? In all honesty, BMW would probably replace the seat if it broke - under my warranty. But maybe to prevent some embarrassment to my friend, I thought I'd ask you guys - people who have had this car longer than myself, that might know more than me. Anyway, thx for your input. |

Hey, I know the feeling of trying to take care of your car, especially when its a new BMW, but turning down a friend because you think you'll break the seat, which is still under warranty is just sad. If your friend won't fit comfortably, he probably wouldn't ask for another ride again in your car.
By the way, I wasn't offended, and I'm not fat. |

The right answer is to find new friends.

But since I have asked, and a couple of peeps here gave some good advice as far as maybe warning him that the seats are tight etc., maybe I'll do that. I assure you, I honestly was NOT trying to be mean or sad - but maybe to learn more about the quality of the car etc. And before you say; it's a BMW, and do I honestly think that Germans would make a cheap car (blah, blah...), there are some cheapness to the car - the plastic for example, as well as a couple of other features they went cheap on. Anyway, I really was trying to be sensitive, on a rather touchy subject. Oh well, I cannot please everyone. |

I am 6'1" tall and 205 lbs, and I would say that I am probably the biggest person you could fit comfortably in my Z4M. I have a friend who went for a ride who is 6'4" and 220 lbs and it was not roomy for him.

I've given my buddy a ride who is around that size. No issues, other than him complaining how uncomfortable my car is

I would give him a short ride and see how it goes. And I'm 5'10 145-155 (depending on my intake that week), and I had so much trouble changing clothes in that car.

And if they're wide... well... it is a pretty narrow car. And I'm by no means a skinny man myself, and most racing buckets give me some ball chaffe! Nothing wrong with a little fair warning...

It is not likely that your friends weight will over stress the car or hurt it. The real problem is the way your friend may or may not conduct himself in the car. Our Z's are not built like Suburbans. If you watch heavy folks get in or out of seats/chairs, they put a lot of strain on them, push back on the back, pull them selves out by the door handle, the arm rest, slam the door , push the seat back into the back wall, grab something to pull themselves out of the car that was not designed to help an over weight person lift themselves, a raft of things than a really big strong person can break if they are not careful. If I give a friend a ride in my Z that is a clod, I tell them not to act like a bull in a china shop. The Z has a lot of things that are not designed to be abused. That's where the problem comes in.

Seriously though, I found it interesting that most of the members of his forum agreed with me, and my concern. Also, that they didn't see me as being mean, because that wasn't my intent. |
