Aero side sills
Z4 Aero side skirts part #s
51 71 0 150 780, 51 71 0 150 781 Got the Aero sills installed...... It's a straight forward install, but thought I'd post a couple of points... Removal The external fasteners are obvious, & the first thing to tackle. Once the fasteners are off, pull the OE sills straight out where they join the body (at the top edges front & back) Then...slide the sill forward & it will come right off the hidden bayonet fasteners. - clean the nooks & crannies thoroughly Then remove the female part of the fastener from the body. (the bayonet fasteners are one time use... new ones come with the sills) Install Transfer the weather strip from the OE to the Aero sill. (just pulls off) It has some butyl inside & reseals just fine to the new sill, no need for more goop. Install the *new* bayonet fasteners on the sill (c/w the female portion) !!! before installing on the car!!! You will likely have to trim the sill a little. ..right here at the back edge. (look at your OE sill & you'll see the difference) - Then just snap them in place with the bayonet fasteners. after snapped in, you can adjust alignment fore & aft by tapping the sill in the appropriate direction. When aligned install the external fasteners & you're done.

These should be stock on all M roadsters and coupes. Not sure why they are not.

I don't understand how adding another crease to the creasiest (haha) car ever makes it more aerodynamic. I like my skirts smooth instead of bumpy anyway

-Point taken, but you should take a long look at F1 cars! They are a dizzying arrangement of rounded tips and creases.

The aero sill extends the curve of the door panel; So the crease (@ bottom door edge) just moves further down, and instead of being a compound curved crease, following the door.... It's straighter, following the direction of air flow.

Where is the best place to get these? Pre-painted would be great, though best $ is also a concideration.

I think these look nice on your car. I can understand the opposing points of view though too. I think I will buy the CSL wheels/suspension as my next mod. I am still on the fence about the carbon lip spoiler.

It's on the front edge in the area shown in pic 1 (circle)
It's not much & you'll see the difference when you take the original sills off. I don't have any other pictures. |

I did this mod. I ordered mine from Tischer, which appears to be the cheapest place with a solid reputation. They are not sold pre-painted in the United States.
