ESS -- $4 FIX for Rough Idle

OK -- So in my n52 I could see a little oil weeping from the ESS - and my car is running a little rough on idle & intermittent at that.

So after replacing spark plugs (NGK) and removed the 16 yr old Coils (66K miles). The poor idle remains.

.
Purchased ESS Seal and the Valvetronic Motor (Football Seal).
.
After replacing the ESS Seal (10mi Job). WoW!!! I must have had a bad vacuum leak.

As cheap as the ELRING ESS Seal Was $4.06 from FCP Euro --- and simple to remove -- I highly recommend.

Curious…because I’ve had a rough idle from was since initial install, and recently started to notice a little oil as well…do you have a part number/possible write up to go by?

Ordered from FCP Euro

ESS Seal was on FCP -- Removed with a Right Angled pick --- stuck into the side of the seal in about 3 places and pulled it out in no time. Ensured that the ESS sensor prongs and inside of Sensor (after 1st disconnecting the battery) was free of any oil / used alcohol on an Q-tip and wiped it out.

Good Luck. see Youtube

He’s referring to this part

Plenty of write ups online as it’s a common maintenance item, just google eccentric shaft sensor. Here’s one from YouTube
