Unless you are seriously tracking the car you don't need them, many guys track hard with stock bolts with no problems.

I used ARP when mine were done. They're reusable by the way. So that is probably the main benefit.

Do make sure to check if yours are 10mm or 11mm.

From Bimmerworld:
This rod bolt set is made for the later S54 (February 2003 and newer production dates), which used an M10 sized bolt, versus the earlier cars which used an M11 sized bolt. (If your S54 engine is built before 02/2003, or you know it has an M11 sized bolt, please see BimmerWorld part # 201-6103 instead.)

Be sure to use a stretch gauge if going for ARP bolts.
They also have a torque spec if you don't have a stretch gauge, but that's a rather simple and crude way of doing it. All OEM manufacturers generally use a torque spec + angle set, no one uses just a torque spec.

I am going to go with OEM bolts because ARP are not designed for S54 without honing the rod bore. I know many people get away with it, but it seems like an unnecessary risk.
