If I look up the replacement using Canadian Tire's parts locator, it returns the H5 size. If I use the US sites for O'Reilly or Auto Value they return both Grp 48/H6 and Grp 47/H5 as possible replacements. If I use the US Walmart battery lookup, it returns H5 only. I tried multiple years and M/non-M variants where possible.

It appears people should double check their existing battery dimensions before making a purchase ...

I'll need to check. I do know the new one is longer and the tray was designed to manage both.

I'm eventually going to add my input for the Lithium Pro L925. I'm still running some tests. The car alarm draws some amperage (not sure how much)... so should we be testing how many days the car will last and still start with the alarm activated or inactivated or both? Bad news is my battery failed the 5 days test with the alarm activated. =( I was hoping to last a week with this battery.

Really bad news! Just melted my expensive lithium battery. It did NOT like my trickle charger. Probably user error on my part. Oh well, I'll call the company. Glad my car didn't burn down... which might have happened had my brother not smelled it.

Edit...pretty sure my trickle charger was not compatible with my battery. Expensive lesson but that's how it goes.

I'm an idiot. Even though there is voltage protection they plainly say not to use a trickle charger on their batteries. I am just glad I didn't burn my car down. I am not sure if I will buy another one. After further reading there are too many limitations with the battery as far as charging and jump starting. Here is info from their site:

Can you jump start a dead lithium ion battery?

No. Lithium ion batteries are especially susceptible to cell damage when they are empty. A good lithium ion charger will actually “soft start” and roll the output current back when it detects a lithium ion battery at a very low SOC. This being the case, jump starting would send an uncontrolled amperage into a very low lithium ion battery. Bad idea. Don’t do that. Use a lithium ion battery charger or a 12V AGM charger at its lowest setting (1~2A) and slow charge the Lithium Pros battery back to 20% SOC. After that it can be charged like normal.


Do I have to buy a special charger?

Not really. 12V Lithium Pros batteries can be charged with any voltage regulated battery charger without a desulfation mode. Trickle chargers should not be used. AGM type battery chargers are highly recommended since the finishing voltage is regulated and typically lower than for a flooded lead acid battery. At no time should the battery charger exceed the max amperage and voltage rating on the battery.

Look forward to seeing the pictures, and thanks for posting the limitations. If I'm ever caught away from home with a dead battery, the ability to jumpstart is a necessity for me. Not very practical in a grocery store parking lot to find a low amperage charger (and available power), then wait for the battery to charge back up so you can carry on ...

Again, I hooked it up to a trickle charger when they tell you not to. I was just really dumb and hooked it up without checking.

I'd have a word with the battery manufacturer if I were you. Yes, they have a mild warning on their FAQ that 'Trickle Chargers should not be used'. However, they also state:

Second, every lithium ion battery has (or should have ;D ) a battery management system. This system checks for high voltage, low voltage, over current, short circuit, or over temperature. If these conditions exist the BMS literally disconnects the battery from its load and turns off the output terminals. This mini-computer inside a battery adds cost especially if it is sized to handle your starter! For this reason larger lithium ion battery packs are usually less expensive per watt-hour than smaller ones.

I'd say the 'battery management system' in your battery failed rather spectacularly - looking at your pictures, I'd say it's a safe bet that at some point yours was 'over temperature'?

I am running the Odyssey PC680 along with a custom mount i fabbed up from some aluminum. The battery weighs about 15lbs and the mount can't be more then a pound. I don't keep it on a trickle charger but it will hold a charge for at least two weeks in a none heated garage.

Yeah I didn't need the trunk place either so I just stuck with the stock mounting location. The mount I made is rock solid for the little bit of aluminum I used. I can grab the battery with my hand and rock the car.

I had to replace my battery back in August, because the original OEM battery started to "grow" and acid was pouring out of it, I'll add the battery I replaced it with next weekend when I'm in my winter-sleep-garage.
