What combo of staggered wheels fit best on M roadster with stock suspension and alignment settings with -2.0* front and -1.5* rear? Looking to fit 245/40 and 275/35 extreme summer compound e.g. RS-4 or Star Specs without fender rolling or spacers. The more flush the better but don’t want undue stress on the hub lips neither.

Fronts: 18x9.0 et30 / 18x9.5 et35 / 18x9.5 et28
Rears: 18x9.5 et22 / 18x10 et25

3002 tii,

We would recommend the following fitment for your application:

Front: 18x8.5" ET35 - 235/40-18
Rear: 18x9.5 ET22 - 275/35-18

OR

Front: 18x9" ET30 - 235/40-18
Rear: 18x10" ET25 - 275/35-18

Please keep in mind that with the 18x9 ET30/18x10 ET25 fitment, a 245/40-18 tire is not recommended. That tire is a bit too tall and might cause extra headache when it comes to front clearance. We would recommend sticking with a 235/40-18 tire for optimum fitment on your M Roadster!

A 275/35-18 in the rear should clear in the rear given your current camber at -1.5˚ but we cannot guarantee this, as every car is a bit different. Ride height and tire compound can play a roll in clearance to the fenders.

The 18x8.5 ET35 and 18x9.5 ET22 fitment listed above will be a direct fit for your application and will not require spacers or fender work, provided that you stick with the tire sizes we have outlined. Below is a photo of this setup with our EC-7 wheels for reference:

I hope this information was helpful. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to us!

Max, thanks for detailed response. I’m surprised 245 is too tall considering it’s still 1/3” shorter than stock. So then I guess my next question is how much camber is necessary to stuff a 245-255 up front? This would be for a road course setup so I would prefer more grip up front. If I am limited to 235, then I might even dial the rear back to 265, using same rear width recommendations as above. Thoughts?

3002 tii,

Apologies on the 245/40-18 recommendation above. This tire size can work but will not be a direct fit on the 18x9 ET30 and will require some camber to aid in fitment.

We would recommend the 18x9 ET30 to pair with the 255/35-18 or a 245/40-18. Camber is required for both of these tire fitments (-2.2˚ and -1.8˚ respectively).

We have had quite a few enthusiasts who have managed to run our 18x9.5 ET35 up front and the 18x10 ET25 in the rear. You will need to use a 5mm spacer and about -2.2˚ camber up front to clear the suspension and the fender. Camber will vary based on ride height and tire compound.

For this setup we would recommend the 255/35-18 up front and a 275/35-18 in the rear for optimal sidewall support. The 275/35-18 will clear in the rear without a fender roll unless you are running at a lower ride height but camber is required. In that case, we would recommend maxing out the stock camber arms or rolling the rear fenders to aid in clearance.

245/40/18 fits without rub on Z4 Ms on stock camber. I fit a set on 18" x 8.5" ET 35 (not Apex, sorry) up front at stock camber settings and it works just fine. For an OE fit without stretching tires, the 8.5" ET35 is the most ideal fit.

245/40/18 also fits fine without rub on 18" x 9" ET 30, although I can't say without camber. That's what I'm running right out on my spare set of OE rears up front at -3º camber. Tires are stretched enough where if I were to drop the tire with wheels on a flat ground, it would contact the rim. 255 would be a better size to run to afford some minor protection to the rim.

Say hi to Eddie for me, I had dinner with him and Patrick about a month ago at Buttonwillow.

Hack - what tires are you running? Surprised to hear that 245 is slightly stretched on a 9”...

Do you think there’s any adverse effects on handling by running mismatched diameters, e.g. taller tires in rear by +0.3” relative to fronts?

I’ve run Toyo R1Rs, Falken Azeris RT615Ks, and Nitto NT01s on 8.5 et35 up front. I’m running Federal 595 RSR-R on the 9” rims.

245/40/R18 nominal width is 8.5”. On 9” rims it doesn’t look stretched, but the RSR-Rs has zero rim protection so the slightly (0.5”) wider rim when laid flat, the metal of the rim touches the ground.

I finally did it and placed my order on Dec 31...just got the wheels today. These SM-10 wheels are gorgeous.... I'll get pics when I mount them with new tires this spring.

My set up will be :
Front: 18x8.5" ET35 - 235/40-18
Rear: 18x9.5 ET22 - 275/35-18
