parents bought my first car (not counting a hand me down for a few months) i turned that car they bought me, an Evo, into a brand new Mercedes, to a z4c, to a M. Im a very good negotiator, I say it makes no difference. making a car purchase wont teach anyone anything. one and done sounds good to me.

My bad. I saw the shifter, but didn't get a close look so I thought it was MT.
Still, for a 15 y/o she's pretty lucky to be able to drive around a car that nice. If you've got the money to do it, why not? I just hope your daughter has the skills and the maturity to handle that car. I hope she doesn't let one of her boyfriends crash it.

Lucky girl! I got a brand new '04 325Ci a few months after I got my driver's license @ 16 years of age
I was a very mature and responsible teenager, so my parents had no problems getting me such a nice first car. They also happen to be Asian, and Asian parents have an odd tendency to think that it's down to either Mercedes or BMW; not necessarily because of social class, but because they feel that these German cars are probably more well-built and safe. I'm definitely not complaining I've since passed the 325Ci down to my brother, and bought myself an old tuner favorite, the MR2 turbo. Then after a few years, I was luckily able to upgrade to my Z4M. An ///M has always been a dream of mine |

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase! Hopefully your daughter shares the same feelings, as I'm sure she will cherish such a great gift. I drove a really beat up E36 M3 for my first car and it was a blast! Congratulations again and happy driving!

I got a Bus Pass when I turned 15
Purchased my first car with my own money @ 17; earned working at the corner gas station on weekends. Cost me $500.00 IIRC - 1967 MGB-GT British Racing Green - loved that car

Way too fast a car. Way too much car. I wonder how many friends she will pile into the car. Steve |

That is way too much car for a novice driver. I am in my late forties, and have been driving since I was 17. When I got my 3.0 SI three years ago, I found it scary fast. And having driven motorcycles, I know what speed is.
I think getting that car for a 15 year old is irresponsible. You need your head examined.

Why would anyone spec an automatic car with manual seats?

I searched convertibles on the Auto Trader and came across the Z4. Then I found they had a coupe. I loved it at first sight. I’ve never seen one in person before going to the car lot to look at this car. Smaller then I thought it would be. I would hate to have to drive it as a daily driver. She wanted a New Bettle Convertible – I’m glad we didn’t get one.
Love the extended leather. Wish it had power seats. Color is perfect. I've read through the site here. I plan on doing the DIY on getting rid of the stickers on the visors. We'll keep the car stock. Maybe get a shorty antenna. She'll have a learners permit for the next year. During that time only immediate family members can be in the car. Here are the GA laws once she is 16 in a year and receives her license (there's a state law requiring class room drivers ed attendance too): • No driving between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. No exceptions • During the first six months after issuance, no driving with passengers who are not members of the driver’s immediate family; • For the second six month period, no driving with more than one passenger under the age of 21 who is not a member of the driver’s immediate family; • After one year from the date of issuance, no more than three passengers under the age of 21 who are not members of the driver’s immediate family. I'll monitor it closely and maintain the car. If I had a boy, I would probably install a device to track location and speed. My first car was a '65 Fastback Mustang at age 15. I bought it. My parents did help me get a loan. I later put a 6/71 blower on it. I owned it from '78-'02. It was nice my brother owned a full service mechanic and body shop. |

USAA has no increase in insurance costs for a driver with a learners permit. Full coverage is $370/6 months.

Please do yourself and your daughter a favor and put her in a BMW Street Survival Class. As an instructor I will say this will teach her how to handle the car in bad situations and. I completely beleive this is a GREAT program and worth EVERY DIME to teach young drivers how to be safer on the road.
