Disassembled the suction cups and painted them Sepang Bronze. Hope I can put them back together! Now they'll be MUCH less noticeable in the videos.

Yes, I'd like to commercialize this once I'm satisfied with its performance and durability. It will be called the "Scorpion(tm) Mount".

As for pricing of it, that depends on the demand I get... It'll be reasonably priced, but I'd like to have a profit margin to compensate for the time and money I spent on R&D. I'm using inexpensive parts where possible, but relatively expensive parts where strength or performance is very important

Would love to have these custom painted in the customer's car color before each is shipped out ($50 cost on my end)

Other then some details I'm working on, it should be ready for the next step -->DSLR camera testing on my Canon T2i

That DSLR would be some serious $$$$.$$ hanging on the end of your ScorpionTM. That alone is solid good proof that the mount is reliable

The color match is a nice upgrade, but you've got to pay to paly. I enjoy watching the progress on this. Thanks for sharing it

Its DSLR tested and safe =)
Would work a little better with a wide angle lens like the Gopro for video, but for pics, it can't be beat

This was from a quick test. The 4 second exposure made the car a bit out of focus. I'm sure I can get a better shot with more practice. As a bonus, the mount is out of the view, so there is nothing to photoshop out

Next, I'll order a joint for the camera mount area, so I have more control over the angle. Also working on something else for it, including recording sound separately

I'm about a 4-8 weeks from offering one for sale. Just testing some mods/improvements on it, and waiting for a custom part from a machinist that would alleviate any concerns about the whole thing flying off the car

Got the Gopro Hero 2 now. Here is a screen capture. There is a lot of wind noise I'm trying to eliminate. I tried using an external mic, but its too sensitive. Just ordered a different mic to try. These are all un-edited. I love how it blurs the landscape in low light (tunnel). I will try to replicate this with a filter for the lens, which will increase the shutter speed

here is an edited shot. Keep in mind these are screenshots from video. A picture from the gopro would look MUCH clearer

Could the MODS please change the title of the thread to "Official Motorscorpion camera mount thread"

I no longer use "scorpion go-pro mount" as its too similar to other companies out there, and motorscorpion.com should be up in a few days, and the LLC registered

Whats this? Autocross? Passed safety inspection like a boss. The guys running Philly SCCA are awesome. Big thanks to Ken aka Kklin here for the promotion on the intercom!
The confusion on my first run is hilarious. If you watch carefully, I turn off traction control in the middle of my run right at the straight section. There was also time for 3 “fun runs”, which everyone used to learn to drive better, but I was under the impression that it meant “go sideways as much as you can time”. Unfortunately I used my regular mount for that, and had a terrible angle. My friend has a cell phone clip of me spinning though.

This was filmed on the Gopro 2, using an external mic. After many many sound tests, 3 different microphones, and a lot of furs, foams, easter eggs, soda bottles, and combinations of them all I FINALLY found a NO WIND NOISE solution. Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone mounted right under the trunk opening above the rear bumper, seen with blue tape in the video.

I wish I didn't film it in the low res mode (but 120fps for slow mo which I will be posting soon). Also, the lower right arm is attached with a "finished the night before" tow hook adapter which is heavy duty as fuck (cost was $$$.$$ for the first one made by a machine shop), which prevents and safeguards against any catastrophic failure. Unfortunately I didn't align the camera angle and tighten the corresponding ball joint, so you don't see very far ahead of the car like in my previous shoots and the camera also moved around.

No biggie. The video came out smooth, and sound is dead on.

Before each run, I gave the setup a good shake before heading out. Before heading out on my third run, I must have pulled on it too hard, because the bottom left arm lost suction. The other 2 arms held everything up perfectly as it came off the bumper. It didn't help that the rear bumper was so dirty I couldn't get suction on it again, so I took it off. The dual suction cup attachment points I'm using are designed for a flat surface, and the corner of my back bumper is not that. This is why it was over-stressed. To prevent this from happening again, I will clean the bumper better before applying, and design flexibility into the lower left bumper attachment point. I'm confident that I will never run into that issue again once that is re-designed, and will do extensive testing before bringing it to the autocross again.
