Headliner removal tips

On my CF roof install, I found that dealing with the headliner was a little tricky.
I found out several ways that it did NOT want to come out of the car

So.... after eliminating the ways that it didn't work, I found a way that was relatively easy.

I hope the following series of pics help you a bit

1. remove the A and B pillar covers.
it helps to have proper trim removal tools, but they basically just pull off by gently wiggling from the edges & pulling
HIGHLY recommend to only do this in a warm environment.
If its cold, the plastic may not do well.

2. Remove the interior lights fixture & disconnect cable.

3. remove sun vizors .....and the front will drop down.

4. slide H.Liner towards front of car to free the back end.

5. the back right corner has to work out around the B pillar.

6. angle down and out the passenger side.

How much time did it take from removing OEM roof to finishing installation of carbon one?

I didn't do mine all in one shot.
I pulled the OE roof ahead of time & drove topless for a while.

The most time consuming part will be cutting through the OE sealant.
and that depends largely what method you use.
I didn't try using piano wire, I used an oscillating cut tool for most of it.
With the oscillating tool the trick is to NOT try and cut the sealant.
Just make a plunge cut, then move it sideways and it basically melts through the sealant.

The corners are the hardest part to deal with. I used a long thin kitchen knife to cut the corners from the inside (fronts) and from under the hatch at the back.

I would allow a full day & just take your time with it.

Yikes! Take lots of detailed picks for us when you figure it out though. That will help out anyone else with a cage I'm sure.

I recon my roll bar will actually be ok, I have about 1/5th of an inch to play with. Very happy Ian was able to get it out the side door, if it would have had to go through the boot, that would have destroyed my liner.

LOL rollbar was not fine and had to be removed to get the liner out. I also looked at various options to remove the roof, and i, going from Alex's lead found that using a Guitar string (the smalls gauge one) was very easy to .. cut.. the rood off.

i have a few pics which ill post for completeness of Ian's thread.

Choose a starting point, and with a very small gauge screw driver push the guitar string through the black goup holding the roof on. I choose the backside where the boot lid goes up to start. then attach something that you can hang on to on both sides of the wire, and then you just PULL it along. but just take it easy. i used 2 guitar strings, broke 1 half way along in one of the corners. where it kinda jammed between the bottom support and the roof support where it bolts in.

Hope that made sense, it will become clear when your doing it.

Thanks to Alex and Chris for the info/method.

Hey guys - picked up a roof from a forum member in the classifieds and planning on installing it in the next week or so. Do any of you think it would be good to use a heat gun to try to heat up the glue and then just push/pry the roof out? Also do you think fishing line could work?
