I usually run in the 'B' Group but I have never run in a BMW CCA event so I might be put down in the 'D' or 'C' group since they don't know me. Don't care.. Track time is track time..

I usually don't run flat out all the time anyway. I usually am working on something specific so I might be slower than some that run with their hair on fire...

Have fun all! Hope the weather holds out. Do they allow spectators at these events? Maybe if I come watch it it will help with my weirdness about actually driving there. I've not admitted the weirdness issue before now, BTW....
I think Steve said they were hitting 170(?) on the back straight before they lost the brakes at the top of the 'Coaster. We won't be going quite that fast! Taking an extra set of rotors and pads, just in case!

In case y'all aren't aware of it, the CCA has coordinated a stated value track day insurance program for it's chapters' HPDEs. Cost for the weekend for me is ~$200--not cheap, but it sure takes the worry out of meeting Mr. Tire Wall in the climbing esses. You can link to the program and apply online, from the registration page on motorsport.reg.

No problem coming to watch. Just sign the waiver at the gate. I don't think you can do ride-alongs, though.

Not sure about CCA events but on the other events I have been to, ride-alongs are only in an instructor's car..

Ride along would be great, but not needed - might find it fun to watch if we find out we can make it out at the last minute though. I got no problem sigining my life away for some observation - I signed it away for two seasons when were were on crew...

The Z4M Koni car was really quick in the straights. I want' to say they hit 175-178 in it at Homestead - that is cookin'. I thought I heard that he was doing agout 150-155 when the incident happened at VIR. He ended up way at the bottom of the hill basically at the outer side of turn 16 where it's kind of flat - went a long way. A photographer was there overlooking the roller coaster and was lucky enough to get basically the entire thing with a rapid fire sequence of pictures.

Viewer discretion advised, since so many of you are taking M coupes to VIR...

I'm not eligible to run with my Roadster, but would enjoy watching you guys do so, if you wouldn't mind an observer.

What are the dates & times of the events?

Hey Bruce,

You're just a roll cage away from being able to run the Roadie! Sorry, wish you could be out there with us. The school is Feb 26-27, and cars are usually on-track from about 8:00 am until 4:00 pm or so, with a lunch break. Students are broken into four run groups, and run four 25 minute sessions plus a couple classroom sessions each day. So, folks will be coming and going from the pits all day. If you make it, look for me in the paddock near the red garages--Silver Gray Coupe with OE wheels and Virginia plates.

Just show up and we will get you an armband so you can do everything but drive...

When you show up at the gate, make sure you are with the BMW CCA group or it will cost you $10.00 to park...

If you really want to get into track days, going to an event the first time and not driving is the best way to do it. You don't get into information overload all at once... That is the way I did it.. It helps

That's great!

I've been told to shoot for 38ish hot pressures. I think I was going out with something like 33 cold on the stock Contis, but will have to look at my notes.

MFGJR... I'll be there! I'm confirmed! I'm ready to go, got it tech inspected, changed the oil, installed track pads, did full brake bleed, installed 2 new front tires ( to match the new rear tires that came with the car) and ordered a helmet. Helmet shows to be at my house in 2 days...

Now I watch the extended forecast everyday for Alton, VA hoping to see decent temps and no rain. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you out there.

Ah, I found you on the MSR list, was looking for "Z4" so missed "M Coupe". Glad you made it in--I think everthing is full now but for one slot in A and one in B, so I was worried.

6 M Coupes may be a HPDE record!

I PM'd you and Shipkiller about connecting up on Friday, if you're coming in before late.

ShipKiller and Frank, I can't really leave Suffolk until 5:30 or so, possibly 5pm at the earliest, but I have to work on Friday, so thats the reason for the late departure. If either of you are leaving around that time, we can make the cruise together. If your leaving earlier I'll just meet you at the track on Sat morning or possibly meet you Friday night at the hotel. My goal is to be at the hotel no later than 9pm so I'll have time to register and get some rest in for the weekend...

My dad will be with me and we are thinking about driving separate so I'll have a place to keep everything during the day on sat and sun (snacks, water, clothing, a few tools). Last time I did this we drove just the Vette, and although it worked, the ability to have everything in a separate vehicle would have been much nicer.

We will also most likely stop somewhere along 58 for dinner, maybe in South Hill or somewhere closer to Danville, I'm not sure where though as we really haven't talked about it.

If either of you are planning on leaving that late and we do meet up for the cruise bring a 2-way radio if you have one. They work great for close vehicle communications on trips like this.

Jason, Ship,

I'm coming out of Richmond around 2:00 with a couple of other guys...

I thought I PM'd you guys about logistics, but I can find no sign of that message now--must have got distracted before hitting "send". I'll try that again. If we don't connect on Friday, we're usually set up in the paddock over near the garage suites. Look for a blue E46 M3, a Montego 335 sedan, a black E46 M3 with a CSL trunk. And a gay Z4M.

Edit--that's a GRAY z4m!

Frank and Ship... I'm just gonna have to meet you 2 down there... I'd want to leave earlier too if I had the day off but just don't have that luxury this time. Looking forward to meeting you though. Jason

Frank or Shipkiller - you guys planning on just meeting up and then immediately hitting the road? Shipkiller - even though I'm probably not going to make it out even to spectate, would just be nice to say "Hey". Probably not worth it if you're just cruising on through to get down there... Just curious.

K--looks like we won't be meeting up until we each hit Danville--Shipkiller's coming from Virginia Beach, via US-58 I assume. Going to be six of us, wish you could come down and make it seven!

Yeah, I know! It'll probably be a last minute decision to make a day trip out of it or not. Two words - laundry room.....you know the rest....

Hey, what's the schedule for Saturday like anyway, in case we can make it to meet people and spectate?
