I finally bought it!

After searching for a couple of months and saving up I finally bought a Black 1 owner Z4M. Currently in Colorado, contemplating either shipping it or driving it back especially since there is no serious snow yet.

I’ve gotten quotes from 995-1500 for enclosed carrier which is serious mod money.

What do y’all think about driving it from CO through UT and NV to CA? Has anyone done this drive before? Worth the risk of rock chips?

Anyways, excited to be here!

Congrats on the purchase!

How much will it cost for you to get to the car to drive it back including cost of fuel, food and lodgings? It's a fun road trip but might be cheaper to ship it?

I would definitely do the road trip. I'd done it last year, but from So. Cal to Colorado through NV and UT. Made a few stops such as Zion, Bryce, Arches, etc. Quite a scenic drive. Yes, gas/food/lodging cost about the same as getting it shipped, but the drive is so amazing that I wouldn't missed that chance to do it.

I didn't buy the car to be a garage queen, so a few rock chips/battle scars are perfectly acceptable to me, IMHO.

I was about to pull the trigger on a car in Roseville, CA and drive it back to Orlando but one popped up 5 miles from me. Missed a serious road trip.

Drive it home, you won't regret it and will love every mile. That's how you get to know your new-to-you car!

Got mine from CO too haha. Same exact road trip you have in mind. The drive is AMAZING during the day. Do it!!

Cons along my way though... Tire blew out, got a speeding ticket and my windshield cracked. But all in all very fun.

The Drive could be nice if the car has a OE ride height and correct tires for the route.
If not I'd strongly recommend you ship it.

If you've got the time, I say drive. I've always wanted to do something like that, what better way to bond with your new car!

There was a bimmerpost member who drove their M2 from the east coast to CA and took photos the entire way. They used this stuff http://www.trakktape.com/ to help protect the paint. It didn't look too good on their car but I imagine it was their application. I'd look into it if I were planning a trip like this and you are planning to keep the car as mint as possible.

If we still haven't convinced you on the road trip yet, have a look at these pictures (http://www.raddrives.com/albums/2015...rip/index.html) when I took the Coupe on a 10-day trip with Raddrives through the southwest national parks a couple of years ago. Can't you tell? I love doing road trips in the coupe

Wow, I'm sold. *fingers crossed it doesn't snow considerably*

So far, I'm looking at driving from San Jose to Reno to Salt Lake City to Denver to Arches/Canyonlands to Zion to Las Vegas and back through Death Valley to the Bay Area. Going to be 42 hours of driving so 4-5 days seems reasonable.

I'm sure the road trip will end up being more expensive, but I think the experience will be worth it.

I bought my Z4M coupe in Alabama and drove it back to Wisconsin. It was really fun. Read about my adventures here if you want --> http://www.jefjamdesign.com/ARCC/index.html

Well I'm a bit late to this thread - but hope you did indeed drive it and hope you had a good time :-).

If you're still on the fence - dooo eeet!

Going further south would be an option if it got snowy. I drove mine from Columbus, OH to San Francisco in February of 2016 - went southwest to Oklahoma and crossed the rockies at the south end, not seeing any snow until.... near Bakersfield in SoCal! Who would have thought?

It was a good trip, although I wish I had taken more time.

Just purchased one from Seattle and drove down to San Diego. Wish I had time to enjoy the scenery but I had personal business which made for a non-stop driving except fuel stops. But to be honest, the drive was not bad at all! Took about 20 hrs total

Got mine from Shreveport, LA and drove back to San Diego. It was a mega drive. Unfortunately not as scenic as some drives but still very memorable. Must have passed through all of Arizona in about 5 hours without stopping.

I picked mine up Wednesday evening, and drove most of the time besides stopping for food and sleep. Got back to San Diego on Friday evening just as the sun was setting.

Hope eventually my next cars is thousands and thousands of miles away to do it all over again.

All you San Diego folks, where are you all?? I rarely see another M. We should have a SoCal meet up. To add to the road trip log, I drove mine from San Francisco to San Diego. Not a big deal, but definitely didn't want a rock chip from one of those semis that fly down the freeway doing 80. Made it safe and no worse for wear.

Sounds good! I'm new to the BMW scene and Z4M doesn't necessarily have the biggest community. I'm coming from s2000 so there is definite drop in quantity. But quality, there's just so much to be had. I do miss the transmission though
