Just saw my first XM today…

I was with my son and we were a bit early for an appointment, so drove through our local BMW dealership. At that time the new owners of the BMW XM were about to take hold of their car. I have to say it is one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen in my life and my son totally agreed. The proportions are awful. The styling is gross, there’s nothing to like about it and the thing cost $160,000. What a mistake by BMW.

I suspect it’ll be one of those BMWs that nobody wants to buy, they sit on the lot for a while, and then after 10 or 15 years due to the rarity, they become very expensive.

The Lexus dealer is next-door and they had a 2023 LX 600 there and boy that is a much nicer looking SUV. Heck, give me a fully loaded Range Rover for the money.

So I wouldn't buy one because one I can't afford it and two at the price point I'd probably buy a Cayenne Turbo GT... but fwiw, I think in black it looks pretty mean.

I would rather buy an X5M but I see the appeal...it reminds me of RR design language. It makes a presence wherever it goes for sure.

It’s like the Toyota FJ Cruiser: fugly and was only sold for a short period of time, but then went up in value. It was much cheaper though. I don’t see the XM fetching close to or over its original MSRP 10-15 years from now. It’s not something I would consider to ever be a classic.

Absolutely heinous. But then so is the g80 and they are selling tons of those. Guess I’m old.

the g80 sells like hot cakes but because its the best car in its class by a mile... certainky not because of its looks 😂

It's one of those cars that's objectively bad design, but it catches the eye and that's what will make it desirable. Aside from the front I don't think it's a horrid looking ride.

Classically beautiful design is still there but modern consumers want trendy design in today's fast-paced, social media-driven world. BMW knows its customers lease in 2-3 yr increments and want the newest hottest thing once their leases are up. Hence all the controversial design as of late.

When our 2nd i3 lease was ending, they pulled the i3 a year early and could not get another. My sales guy said what about the XM, I said but it costs at least double the i3, its way overpriced. His reply was well the Model X sells for that much.... BMW priced it that high just because it could. Give me a X1/2/3/4 sized EV for $50-60k and we'll talk...
