DSC module gone bad?

Just got my Z4 back from the dealer. They say my Z needs a new DSC module. It's gonna cost $4k to replace!

Does that sound about right?

Ecs Tuning has a refurb for $1,137. Not sure how hard it is to replace but I sure would try. Also wasn't sure what Z4 you have.

I’d buy one off junkyard for fraction of price.

I've got a 3.0si. Is it common for these modules to go bad? What causes it? I only have 44k on my 2008 Z4. Crazy....

Are you comfortable with the stealership's prognosis? Curious if they provided data regarding their findings.

If not, do you have a trusted independent tech that knows BMW's and have them assess to provide another opinion?

You should be able to diagnose with ISTA or INPA?

Try this fix, worked for me!

I had mine fixed by ModuleMaster for a fraction of the cost and a better warranty than OEM. The experts and local Indy shop removed the module, I shipped it and got they mailed back to shop. DSC issue resolved, going strong for past two years!. Check them out at https://modulemaster.com/rebuilds/
Can't go wrong with these folks, they are lifesavers + also provide superb customer service!
