125K mile rod bearings.

My car is having rod bearings and vanos done as we speak. If you were ever wondering what 125K mile rod bearings look like, here you go!

Service items doing the job they were designed for, no more, no less. And off course the crankshaft journals are in perfect condition?

Obviously very worn (copper showing on #2), but for 125k miles I expected worse (in extreme cases you see this level of wear also at 60k miles).

Probably a good indication that this engine isn't abused very much and kept in realtively low revs by previous owners.

Good to know. It hasn't been and will not be kept at low revs in my hands.

Is there any "break in" required for new rod bearings? Break in usually involves piston rings, I don't see why rod bearings would need break in considering the oil wedge, but just want to get the hive's thoughts.

My 2006 Z4MR is at 40,000 miles. Was planning to do this at 60,000 miles. Hope I'm not playing with fire.

I don't think so. Mine made it to 125K just fine.
