Lightweight Strong Wheels for Street

Hi guys, I’m new here. I’ll be picking up a 2007 Z4MC in white with red interior tomorrow.

I would like to know your recommendations for 18” close to stock spec wheels as I do not want to deal with rubbing. My priority is performance first, I would like your recommendations on the lightest forged street wheels that are also strong enough to heaven forbid, hit a pothole.

I was thinking maybe BBS RGR? But I’d love to hear all your recommendations.

My other mods I want to get are:
-Mstache lip (I replied on Carbon Steve’s thread)
-carbon fibre roof (I sent an email to Geoff Steel)

Thank you guys!

Kris

I personally have a set of SSR Comp-Cs on my Z4M, but, they are really expensive, rare, no longer made and fragile.. so..

I second Apex wheels. Most of their designs are BBS replicas so you should find one that you like. All their wheels are very light and strong, but most importantly, they have an exchange program where you can send back your bent wheels and get replacements for half price.

As much as I love genuine BBS wheels, it can be costly to use them on bad roads.

It's really hard to find good wheels for the Z4Ms (in my opinion). Volk (by Rays) certainly tick the quality and weight boxes and the price is reasonable in comparison to HRE, Forgeline, etc that - arguably - use an inferior forging process. Look at the Rays Japan website, but there are only a few models that have the right PCD and offsets for us.

The forged Advan wheels (made by Rays) are another option but they also only have a couple of styles that are compatible with our cars (I have forged Advans and they are super light).

If you want really light, high-quality forged wheels, check out the T66F from TWS Forged in Japan. TWS use the same forging process as Rays (maybe from the same forge?). From memory, the T66F are 6.9kg for 18 x 8.5 +35.

I love BBS RG-Rs but they aren't that light and as far as I can see, the 18 x 10" +25 rear is no longer available, so you would have to go with the 9.5" +33 and maybe use spacers (depending on your aesthetic preferences).

Does anyone have any experience running DForce LTW5's? They are awfully light and it has me concerned about durability.

Some decent feedback on the M3 and track forums, worth a shot but seems like you will need spacers depending on the size you are looking at.

This is always a good reference guide four the Z4 platform and aftermarket wheel setups (Apex or not...)

For track it’s fine, for everyday they’ll eventually bend with decent pothole. Not sure what they go for nowadays but way back they were cheaper to replace (~$140) than to repair.

König Hypergram, not forged but flow formed. Raceproven wheel that is extremely light at a great price. Will be runing these on my Z3 Coupe and E46 M3 race cars.
