Z4M E86 Battery Part #

So a year ago I changed my battery from an aftermarket back to OEM. I have been having battery problems so I am trying to get a new one under warranty. The BMW parts guy asked me which battery I have (1 of 2) saying he doesn't know which battery I need without looking at the old one. I then asked why a year ago they just gave me a battery without asking. The parts guy claims there is no way to tell what I originally had even with my VIN and production month.

BTW my E86 production is 7/2007.

Any ideas? Anyone else have one?

Marvin

"If the vehicle is equipped with an IBS
(Intelligent Battery Sensor), the
battery must be registered via the
diagnostic system (ISTA); this process
also registers the battery with the
vehicle's on-board electrical system."

I just read this....do our cars have IBS? This is getting more complicated

No, they don't need to be registered. From what I've seen posted, as well as personal experience, there is a longer battery (Group 48/H6) and a shorter battery (Group 47/H5) that were used in these cars.

The group 47/H5 is 9 9/16 long, the 48/H6 is 11 inches long. The height (7.5) and width (6 7/8) are the same. These are available in both flooded lead acid, and AGM.
