Open door warning
Hi guys my display is showing open door warning all the time. I was thinking that trunk lock mechanism is broke but I swapped it to my M3 and I don't have any warning. M3 is showing ever door separately not as Z4 all door together. . Any ideas ? Passenger or driver doors lock ?

It's likely/possible that the code you see is historical in nature…. You need to clear it from both historic/active memory. If it doesn't clear, then your code reader is incapable of doing so.
I would suggest that you obtain ISTAD software and cable which is the current software for BMW technician use in that case, and for doing any work on the car to read/disagnose issues and fix them as you go forward. That particular code wording is for the window anti-trapping feature, and the reset procedure "fixes" that. That said, you need to clear the code after the "fix". If it does clear, you should then open/close the window to see if the anti-trapping procedure has worked. Re-read to see if it re-appears. Usually, if the window doesn't reopen after being commanded to close then it's "good to go", but without clearing the code it will always appear to have that issue or have fault lamp continue to illuminate. If the code clears, then you know that there is another issue… If it doesn't clear, delving further into the error code with ISTAD will allow you to see potential other causes and the test procedures to identify….. At times, what you "see" isn't necessarily the actual cause….it's just further down the rabbit hole.

So, the code has been cleared now is what I get from the response.
What I don't get is why you say you have an open door warning light as on my '04 there is no open door warning light. I opened driver/passenger/trunk and turned on ignition… nada So.. what year car/model car do you have and give us a picture of the warning light.

When I say there is no door warning light…. I mean that there is absolutely no door warning light symbol on my dash. When you put the key into position 1… all the lights illuminate briefly, then those that are "satisfied" turn off, leaving the various other light associated with a non running engine/ignition in position 1 and has not been advanced to position2 where the starter motor engages and then the car starts.

I checked my car again after looking at your's…. You have a different dash as its in mph vice kmh (Canadian) than mine. Likely a 2006+ version as well.
So…. To have a door symbol appear there has to be a mechanism to tell if the door is open. Used to be a small "push in/out" switch in the door jamb in (much) older cars. Not sure if that is what is employed here…but you would need to do a search of your door or see if it uses something via the door opening mechanism. I suggest you look in realoem.com or BMWfans.info using the last 7 digits of your Vin. It will access the proper year information for your vehicle. I would then go have a look at the various diagrams/part numbers etc to see if you can locate it that way. I also did a Google search…. Using "z4 door open indicator" which gave results. Suggest you do that search on your computer and dive into what it brings up. Delving into the top post that showed… it brought me to this… http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1245176/ Which appears to be the identical problem with a solution/fix. Looks like that post will cure your problem.
