Congrats! I got a '99 cab a few months ago mostly because paying the current market premium to get back into an MR was out of the question. What a pleasant surprise it's been!

I pursued Caymans for a while, then decided I wanted the top to go down and switched to Boxsters. Even had one or two lined up, but dealer idiocy drove me away. Then one day I said, you know, you're going to get the Boxster and the very next day you're going to want to get a 911. So why not just get to it.

I've only had it 2 days but so far I'm really enjoying it. It's quite different than the Z4, that's for sure! For one thing there is no traction nanny, which I have *ahem* discovered in testing. I think I'm going to have to do something about the driver's seat though before I really go exploring; it's like sitting in a ditch, there is no adjustment to correct it, and I don't like it. I may have to make the acquaintance of a good car interior shop.

Yeah PSM was an option and many earlier ones don't have it. Pre-2000 also have throttle cable. Really old fashioned but in a good way

The seats are more comfortable than the M but not nearly as supportive. The closest option to the M would be the sport seats (shared across 986 and 996 range) that are more padded, have similar support, and still more comfy. There is also the GT3 option but those are pricey and an overkill. Plenty of aftermarket options as well, with manual height adjustment.

Surprisingly bought to be honest. That was my top dollar. I was expecting the car to go into the low/mid 30's. When the clock ran down I was in shock! Had to make some quick calls to scramble the funds into place. I think I paid a pretty good price, especially in this recent run-up market.

My wife went for her first drive. She likes it! Even with all the windows and roof open!! She usually whinges about wind so that is a big plus. As far as "open air experience" goes the E93 is better -- at least it is with the wind blocker, which for me is a necessity in that car -- but the Targa is still very free feeling, plus it buttons up faster when parking somewhere away from home, which I'm doing a lot lately.

Compared to either of my Z4's (I also had a 3.0si coupe a few years ago) the Porsche is more linear in its power production and more supple over the road. More of a GT than the BMW coupes were. The Porsche is less fun to shift through the gears; it shifts smoothly but it feels plasticky and remote. At 100K miles I may need some bits replaced to bring back some feel. The steering has plenty of feedback, to the point where I find myself thinking "what the hey!" every now and then when the wheel kicks back at me. I'm sure I'll adjust. This car has the Porsche factory "sport exhaust" option, and it sounds pretty potent when the revs come up; my wife says it's loud, and maybe it is from behind the car, but from inside it is a throaty burbling delight. A guilty pleasure.

Although the suspension feels more compliant over road imperfections, they do make quite a thump sound inside the car. It's especially noticeable when everything is buttoned up. Once again it could be due to 100K miles and suspension bits needing to be refreshed. I'll have to do some homework.

First, let me say- great buy! Looks like you got a clean car.

The comment about "the very next day you will want a 911" always amuses me. The 911 is a larger, heavier car. Completely different in feel than a Cayman. My nephew recently went through the process of buying his first sports car. He started with trying to order an M2 Competition. He placed a deposit and tried to get an allocation, but it was a very hit or miss affair so he lost interest. I had been telling him to try a Boxster/Cayman for years. We finally took a drive to the Porsche dealer and he tried one of each out. It was a game changer. He immediately dropped the M2 idea and focused on a Cayman. Ended up with a 2016 Cayman GTS PDK. He absolutely loves it. His colleagues asked why he wasn't looking at 911's and so he went and test drove one just to be sure. It was no comparison to him. Much more of a GT car than the Cayman.

I get it in your case as you already have a Z4MC. The 911 gets you a different class of car. The Cayman would be another version of what you already have.

The wife finally gave approval for the home garage 4 post car lift...lol. I've been looking at ATLAS and Challenger, but you stated a while back you wouldn't buy the Challenger lift now. I don't plan on working on the cars other than oil or fluid change..etc., nothing major. Everyone's telling me the BendPak and Rotary are overkill for my application.

What would you buy, if you could start over???

Probably what 3798j has. It's the same weight class, the rolling jacks don't need extensions, and his cost a lot less too.

I bought my lift during the early days of COVID. I'm sure that colored my experience. I could not get replies from almost anyone, including the folks 3798j went with. I finally found a responsive vendor locally, and they recommended the Challenger. That's how I wound up here. But unfortunately for me the local vendor really isn't all that good, and that has caused me a lot of woe. A Challenger lift from a better vendor might be an entirely different experience. Plus the Challenger rolling jacks require expensive extensions in order to reach the jacking points on European cars, which I should have been told up front. Instead I found out when I put a car on there and tried to use them. Supply chain blah blah, I waited months more before I could use them. Again, the local vendor fell down on the job. Adding to the list, the lift recently failed to function correctly. Still under warranty so I reached out. The sole tech on the team was out for weeks due to illness. I ended up fixing it myself.

So I, personally, would never buy a Challenger lift again. YMMV.

That said there are a lot of good lifts out there. Shop around. Given my experience I'd put service high on the list, lift manufacturer would probably come second.

Generally speaking:
- Rolling jacks are awfully nice to have. If you change wheels for the seasons or if you want to do any suspension maintenance they are indispensable. They turn the lift from a parking space you can walk under into a much more versatile tool.
- Get more weight capacity than you need. Cheap insurance.
- Get long ramps to make it easy to get your low cars onto the lift.
- Get aluminum ramps if they are not going to remain attached to the lift.
- If you have the electrical capacity, get a 230V pump motor. Faster lifting, almost half the time of 120V.
- Find a qualified, reliable vendor!

I wanted an ALI certified lift with a high weight capacity. It has worked perfectly. While it is slow (110v), that hasn't proven to be a negative. The rolling jacks have allowed me to do quite a variety of repairs. It comes with drip trays and I do park a vehicle underneath.
