Cool BoarderPhreak's 2008 BMW Z4 3.0i

Hey, gang. Been hangin' 'round since 2015 - about time for an intro...

Picked up this beauty in 2009 (it's a 2008, built in 2007). Monaco Blue exterior, Oregon Beige interior w/wood trim. Had about 10k on the clock, now 61k.

Mostly stock, but like the sig says - "if you have to replace it, make it better." So I've added the following mods:

- ZHP control arms w/Powerflex bushings
- Rogue Engineering rear shock mounts
- Lemförder front shock mounts
- Bilstein B6 dampers front/rear
- K&N air filter and airbox sticker(!)
- BMW wind deflector (mesh)
- Blacked out license plate frames/caps
- Bosch ICON wipers

Got some more mods on the way:

- Hamann front bumper cover w/fog lights
- Type 108 wheels w/Michelin PS4S tires & spacers
- BMW stubby antenna

Replaced w/stock (or better):

- Battery (overspec)
- Bulbs (various)
- Plugs and coils
- Third brake light (x2)
- Convertible top motor
- Front/rear roundels
- In-cabin microfilter
- Oil filter cap
- DSC/hydro unit (rebuilt)
- Tires (currently running Blizzaks)
- Oil filter housing/valve cover gaskets (pending)

Potential mods I'm considering:

- ESS Tuning supercharger
- BMW 3.0si/330i manifold
- Deleting "3.0i" badging

Regular detailing products used:

- Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo
- Mothers Clay Bar Kit (clay/spray)
- Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
- Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover 2.0
- Meguiar's #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax
- Meguiar's G7516 Endurance Tire Gel

Thanks!

It's not a common Z4 color and a bit underrated, IMO. It's like a darker version of Tanzanite Blue... In the sun it's a subtle metallic blue but in the shade and off angles it's almost black. Just as hard to keep clean.

Currently wrangling with FF to get my Hamann bumper through customs... Whee. $150 in duties and $260 for their "fees." I don't think so.

Well, that was fun... Importing a bumper from Germany. Managed a $50 reduction from the FF.

Got it home and unwrapped its goodness from the cocoon. Trés sexy, mon ami. Comes with the foglights pre-mounted and, err, headlight washers? I don't have this on my car. Maybe I can turn them into mini flamethrowers...

Thanks so much! As much fun as a keeping a black car clean with the allure of blue, LOL. I'm going to have it spritzed next week. I'm out on the island.

Thanks! The pictures should work... If you right-click and open does it give you an error?

Put in these ZHP control arms and Powerflex FCABs in 2015:

Replaced emblems front and back along the way:

Polished the ish out of the stock rims (which will now be the winter set) by hand:

Past beauty shots:

Probably my favorite pic though... Shot while cruising.

Recently installed the Bilstein B6 dampers, Lemförder front mounts and Rogue Engineering rear mounts. Stupid me, I missed the fine print on the Eibachs and they were for the M, so they didn't go in. Too bad; the drop would've been perfect (20/10mm) but the right springs are 30/30mm and would've required exchanging the shocks, adding endlinks, yada yada - and I was in a time crunch.

Great stuff! Keep the pics coming. I'm particularly intrigued to see the new bumper that you mentioned above.

Thanks! I'll post some before pics over the next couple, and after pics probably next week or so.

Currently working out which shop to bring it to. Small matter of deleting the headlight washer nozzle holes (ala tiltmode). Worst case, I have some panel plugs (both plastic and rubber) as secondary options. The former (flat/low) I can likely paint, the latter (rounded/smooth) would stay black/rubber.

Update... "Before" pics coming over the weekend - going to the spritzer on Monday. Filling the headlight washer holes and Hamann logo dimple no problemo - looking at 2-3 days for the job. w00t!

The Hamann body parts are "Fiber Reinforced Plastic" which is the new age term for fiberglass, LOL. Not thermoplastic like OEM. Definitely not a Duraflex part though (which I wouldn't recommend to anyone). I knew this going in, but FYI.

Some quick "before" shots... Front, rear and close-up of the fog/grille.

Pros:

- Thin, but solid and very clean construction
- Grille is held with screws, not smashed and glued like Duraflex
- Fog lights are pre-installed (bulbs changed through brake duct)

Cons:

- Headlight washer ready (I'm filling the two 20mm holes)
- Brake ducts assume M scoops are installed (not on mine)
- M scoops would have to be trimmed to match bumper cover
- Fog lights require cutting stock harness and wiring replacement (provided)
- Kidney grilles are siliconed into place (boo!)
- Depression for Hamann logo sticker (really?)

Should be getting a call from the body shop any day now. I had them fill the two 20mm headlight washer holes and Hamann logo/sticker dimple, so taking a little longer than usual. They're restoring the headlights while it's all apart too (sand/clearcoat).

Can't wait!

Indeed. A little quiet around here compared to their heyday, but we'll take what we can get!

Confession: I had (very) briefly considered trading in my Z4 on a new(ish) M5. I had to coerce an offer of $8k out of them. No f'in way. Privately I could get more obviously, but to hell with that. Here's to another ten years.

Guy's had the car for a week and hasn't even started it yet. With the holiday last week and two guys out he hasn't had a chance. Might be done next Monday.

So much for "2-3 days."
