this is so reflective of my watch buying mentality. i love these investment grade watches, but i just cannot push myself to buy one. i'm completely OK in the $1000-$1500 range.

i'm currently trying to psyche myself up into a tudor or omega...but having a complete mental block about paying $3000 - $4000.

Bring on the Bollinger and for my taste change that milanese strap, in my opinion it lowers the overall worthy look of this watch. But this depends only on my taste.

Thanks! Yeah it’s big. Since I wear my Apple Watch daily, it can dig in a bit sometimes. But it’s worth it!

has anyone braved a significant ebay purchase from japan? looking at vendors with 1000+ positive feedback and at least 3 years on ebay...some like this: OMEGA Watch Speedmaster Racing Co-Axial Chronograph

ebay does have authenticity and money-back guarantee...but i've never tested either.

am i nuts for considering?

Problem with eBay is authenticity. Just because it has authenticity doesn't mean it actually is. I've skipped out on two watches with authenticity on eBay because they turned out to be replicas after I posted photos that the sellers sent me on different forums and got opinions from various members there. One seller was from Japan and another from Latvia. Both had lots of positive feedbacks. Now they (the forum members in the forums I asked around at) could all have been wrong and it could have been authentic but I wasn't willing to spend $4k to test my luck and/or buy a replica.
Personally I'd pay more for a verified authentic watch from one of the other websites mentioned a few posts above.

The watch you posted in the link is a great watch. I have one of those but with the reverse panda dial. One of my favorite daily wears actually and mine has held up extremely well even though it isn't old and has been worn almost every other day.

Edit - The list of websites is mentioned in the thread about Tudor watches. Not this thread. My bad.

Buy the watch, take it to a dealer for authentication, keep or return pending the outcome. No harm done.

Never. Ever.

A guy I worked with bought two Rolex's on eBay.

When he got them, they were obviously fakes.

He tried to get his money back, but the seller just went "I don't know what you're talking about-- I sent you two real ones, and YOU'RE trying to scam ME with two fake ones."

Lesson learned. I'd NEVER buy a high-end watch that I couldn't have certified from an independent source. The fakes now are so good, that they can fool the naked eye unless you crack the case and REALLY know what you're looking for. Too much risk for my blood.

Ebay is the authenticator these days. It's alot easier to get your money back now kinda like PayPal, they're protecting buyers. They're doing it with shoes and memoribilia now too.

Good to know-- but having seen some of the Chinese Folexes, those damn things would fool all but a dedicated AD-- even if you open the case. There are more than a few threads on the Rolex Forum that just make your jaw drop-- the fakes are *that* good.

If it was me, I'd still stick to an AD or certain grey-market dealers with an outstanding reputation-- at least for high-end watches.

Oh I totally agree there are some serious fakes out there. Due diligence without a doubt.
