Oil Analysis

I just received my first oil analysis since I purchased my car, so I was really curious how it would look. I also had no idea how long the oil had been in the engine, but if I used the service indicator, it was ~7500 miles. Everything looked normal, but Moly was at 164ppm and Titanium was at 31ppm. My guess is that someone added an anti-friction additive to the oil. Has anyone seen anything similar? Any other ideas?

For what it's worth I added moly on my last change and the concentration shows at 655 on a current report.

That Moly and Titanium levels are pretty normal for that mileage on Castrol Edge 10w60. It varies from manufactures and even varies between oils from the same manufacture. I saw different readings between Castrol Edge and TWS for the same mileage. Edge have more of almost everything except Zinc and Magnesium.

You could have just use Redline, if you wanted high Moly. My report of Redline showed Moly at 419 after 3.8K miles - no extra additives

Good to know. I switched to the new BMW Shell oil (Twin Turbo M). It'll be interesting to compare the results.
