2007 Si, oil light stays on after car is shut off.
Do I have anything to be concerned about? I drive this car seldom but when I do I get on it a little bit, after engine is warm of course. I can't find a dipstick so I'm wondering if I've got a problem. Car runs perfect and owners manual didn't help.
The light remaining on is intermittent, or maybe it's always done that and I just never noticed until now. |

With the 3.0si, you don't have a traditional dipstick.
There are two buttons at the base of the instrument cluster (just above the steering column). After the engine is warm and the car is on level ground, push the right hand button. It'll indicate the oil level in the display under the speedometer. Maybe the light is coming on intermittently because you're low on oil?

What in gods name was wrong with a traditional dipstick? I fail to see how BMW in their infinite wisdom has eliminated these. My friends 328 had a similar problem and it was the electronic oil sensor at fault.

Who knows. Freaked me out the first time I went to check the oil and couldn't find the damn thing myself.

And there's an aftermarket one with a metal tip, that may or may not fall off, but it's too short.

I don't like not having a dipstick. I've stayed away from newer BMWs primarily because of all the electronics package (I don't like the joystick or whatever it is) and I like to check my own oil. |
