Battery terminal under hood????
In an old post re: "WINTERIZE", I saw one response to the battery removal or Battery Tender question stating that there were battery terminals under the hood in an M car so perhaps there were under the hood in a 3.0 as well. If so where??? Also in the same post, there was a statement that the truck light would go off after 5 minutes. I haven't found that to be the case in my '04. Any comments are appreciated.

If you have a left hand drive car - the terminal is right in front of the steering wheel under the hood. Should have a red plastic cover over it if it has not been lost. The neg one is by the drivers side wheel fender and not color coded, but if you are looking for it you will find it. If you lean over to take the red cap off - you are leaning over the neg one - lol.
Edit - very similar to this - https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=639128

You might be right - my X5 is red, but the Z4 might be black. I just hook the tender directly to the battery and close the trunk on the cord. Works fine as well if you don't forget and drive off with it hooked up....lol

You can also connect directly to the battery terminals in the trunk and close the lid after connecting.
Edit - You must have made your post while I was typing mine lol!!! Last edited by Huz-Z; 11-07-2019 at 05:39 PM.. |

Older lead acid batteries emitted dangerous hydrogen sulfide gas which is toxic and flammable. A spark from connecting jumper cables incorrectly could ignite the gas causing an explosion. This is why you always connect the red (positive) leads first and then connect the black leads last, preferable to a metal ground in the car, not directly to the battery. Using the front battery terminals enforces this and eliminates this danger, although with modern batteries this is less of a concern.
