Bilsteins and Koni's

I recently purchased a '04 w/ 3.0l and 6psd manual. The original sticker shows it came with the sport and premium package. The car is very clean and doesn't seem like it was driven hard or modified in anyway. It has 70k miles and came from Florida with one-owner.

That said, it has adjustable Koni shocks up front whereas the sport package bilsteins are in the rear. The springs are still BMW. Does anyone have any idea why this would have been done? I have no issues with the adjustable Koni's, in fact I run them on my Miata track car, it just seems weird that just the fronts were swapped.
Based on how little wear there is on other suspension components I can't imagine that the Bilsteins needed replacing.

You're inviting our speculation, but the only way to know for sure is to ask the owner. There's no obvious reason.

Bilsteins have been in shortage so when it came time to replacing maybe they just went with Koni. Or previous owner may have found Bilstein to be too harsh so replaced with Koni. As Filter said who knows...

Unfortunately I didn't buy it from the previous owner. I just didn't know if maybe this was a thing people did for a particular reason, apparently it's not.

Yeah that's a possibility. I was just curious.
