New review - Z4MC

The only thing that I disagree with him about is his comment about the steering lacking feel. That's a head-scratcher to me. Otherwise, fairly spot-on...

I also didn't quite get it. By far the Z has the best steering feedback I've ever felt in quite a few cars. And largely I bought mine because I missed this feeling of insane preciseness and ability to "touch" the road surface with my fingers in all other cars including E46 M3 (not CSL though).

PS: I'm suspecting Elise's steering would be better but it's yet to discover for me

The Z4MC I believe has the CSL's steering rack, yes? While the E46 M3 has a slower rack, even slower than the ZHP coupe/sedan received.

That was my understanding too.

Ha! Didn't know that. That would explain why I got out of it completely underwhelmed. Same for 996 / 987. Those were nice cars... but meh.. overly nice and overly refined.
That was years ago but after I already tried Z4MC several times. I just couldn't stop thinking of it for few years until I eventually got mine

the z4m coupe rack is even quicker at 12.8:1 vs the CSL rack at 14.5:1

there are some people swapping z4mc racks into their e46 m3's for this reason. Supposedly the coupe rack is actually quicker than the roadster rack as well.

He didn't give the "properly brilliant" aspect much time did he. Maybe he needs to spend some time behind the wheel of one in the Spartanburg area. Open invite; I'll meet him there and we can go find something other than cluttered british BS roads.

Back in 2008 when they still had Z4C's and Z4MC's at the Performance Center, I got to flog one around the circuit at a corporate event. I had just bought mine a few months earlier. What an awesome experience!

The best thing about our M's is that they are NOT all things to all people. Yes they require attention to drive smoothly, yes the ride is rock hard, yes the shifter sucks til the car is warm, but when the stars align on a winding road with no traffic=its a sweet place to be!
