Correct, the 5000/7000 SLX are the same length. The EXT is means extended length and would be too long for a Z4. I was looking at the 7000 over the 5000 in case I got a heavier vehicle one day. When comparing the physical weight of each individual jack, 78 vs 96 lbs 5000 vs 7000 I decided on the 5000. That extra 18 may not seem like much, but at my age, 78 lbs is easier on my back. My heaviest vehicle is a X3 at 4200 lbs, so for now I'm good

BTW, Costco now has the 7000SLX on sale ($1250 shipped) for people wanting the additional weight capacity.

Before purchasing one, I did size comparisons between the 2 models. They're both the same length, though the 7000 is slightly wider, taller and heavier.

Thread resurrection! So no shenanigans are needed w/ using the 7000 w/ a Moupe? I'm tempted to get the 5000 but might future proof w/ the 7000.

I don't see why the 7000 wouldn't working since the dimensions are nearly identical except the 7000 is a tad taller, but shouldn't be a problem unless you're really lowered. I also was thinking about getting the 7000 over the 5000 in case a got a 5000+ lb vehicle in the future, but after thinking it over for awhile, I went with the 5000, for a few reasons:

  1. Costco had the 5000 for $1000 shipped to my door and they have a lifetime return policy. The 7000 was several hundred more.
  2. The 5000 jacks weigh 78 lbs each while the 7000 weigh 96 lbs each, so muscling around the extra weight at my age didn't seem worth it just in case one day, I might buy a 5000+ lb vehicle.

Only a couple of nits, they should have been gloss black to match the ramps and the hooks could have been a little wider so that you could also hang the hoses from the hooks. As I mentioned, I made a sling out of some cord and I hang the sling from the hooks. Some day, if I have absolutely nothing else to do, I may take them down and spray paint them.

A can of black Krylon and you're all set. Plus I think they jacket the price up, that glossy black paint adds up...

For all the Canadian viewers, the Quickjack 7000SLX is currently on sale at Costco for $1299.99.
Thinking really hard about pulling the trigger.

Hi. Will the 5000 EXT work on the Z4 e85s?

Was thinking of getting the longer version in case for longer wheelbase cars. Thank you

I doubt it, the standard length one barely fit my E86, but check the specs against your car. They do sell an extension kit for the standard model. I made an extension using a 2x8 that sits on top of the standard model for the few extra inches I needed on the E39 jack points.

The website states the minimum lift point spread is 37.5 inches. Is this the measurement from the front to rear jack points on the side of the car?

Correct, from memory, the E86 has ~39" between jack points.

This my M2C on the 7000EXT. It was almost too big, but it fit. I moved the 7000EXT onto someone else since my I no longer have a vehicle that needs such a big one. I plan on getting the 5000TL which I think will cover my needs, including my new Z4.

Love my quick jacks but almost had my sportwagen fall off. Was doing the back springs with the wheels and some other parts in the back off and the lack of rear weight combined with the diesel engine made the back come up and start to turn sideways. Almost couldn't get the quick jacks down without losing the car. Won't use them again with that car or if I do I'll put weight in the back. Never had an issue with the Z4C.

That's pretty scary, glad you weren't hurt. Not sure you can blame the quickjacks for that. The standard shop lift uses the same 4 jack points under the rockers as the quickjacks so the same thing would have happened with professional lift as well
You must have had a lot of weight removed for the rear to lift like that, generally BMWs are are in the 5x/4x to 50/50 F/R weight distribution. Probably need to lift the front with a floor jack and put jack stands under the subframe to support the nose if you're removing that much weight from the rear.

I only had the wheels and springs out and a few smaller bits. Fuel tank was also almost empty oh and the big muffler is gone. That engine and dsg is pretty heavy but wow. I'm sure it was operator error and to be honest I thought about it possibly being an issue. So just a warning for others, safety 1st!

If I am under the car I still toss wheels under as a secondary safety measure.

I've done the engine mounts on multiple cars (engine no longer suspended from quickjack/car), zero issues. Also had half the front end off without issue. I trust the quickjack setup over traditional jack stands

Curious on the orientation of the quickjacks when you had the incident?

Were the hydraulic hoses coming out toward the back of the vehicle, meaning the vehicle moves forward as it is lifted, which will make the front more stable if heavier than the rear?

Or were the hydraulic hoses coming out the front, where the vehicle moves rearward as it is lifted, this makes the front less stable if heavier than the rear (I never use it in that orientation)?
