I did. Used a Sierra top and the instructions from post 12. In addition to the top there's a headliner install hardware kit you'll need that has all of the various sized torx head screws, and the pop rivets required to fasten the top to the B pillar area and the tension straps to the top frame.

Just bought an '06 Z4 in great shape except for the faded top. I have decided to let a professional install a new one. The BMW mechanic said the hydraulics and top motor were in good shape but I'm wondering if I should have him replace the top motor while the old top is off. I don't want to pay the money, but is this a case of pay me now or pay me later? Thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Have them relocate it to trunk when installing the new top. That way if/when it goes out it’ll be a simple job to replace. Not to mention it won’t be sitting in a pool of water anymore.

I wonder it a good convertible top cleaner and conditioned like Ragg Top might do wonders for the existing top and make all this work unnecessary?

Same. The top of my Z is a bit faded but still in good shape and doesn't leak at all. Still thinking if I should spend $3k on a new top...

Well you know what they say about "if it ain't broke,.......".

I'd look at applying a good quality top cleaner and conditioner. If you park your car outside in the rain a lot, I'd also look at relocating the motor to the trunk to avoid it becoming flooded and failing if your roof drains ever get blocked.

Forgive me but I couldn’t find anything via search — is there a guide for this trunk relocation?

Thank you
