Strange issue

So on Wednesday this week I'm driving and I put on the AC and all is well then turn it off and a little while later I turn it back on and notice that weird sweet chemical smell coming out of the vents but it goes away and all is well. A bit later turn it on again and no AC but hot air. I tried every setting and nothing but hot air. Belt, refrigerant, fuse?

Refrigerant can have a “sweet” smell. Symptoms indicate a leak and all refrigerant leaked. Need to find where it’s leaked from, likely a busted fitting or pipe.

Looks like the compressor is shot. Any ideas as to where to look for a used or refurbished unit?

Brand new Denso OEM unit is only about $230.. for that price I think I'd skip trying to save a few bucks on a refurb..

FCP Euro doesn't show an OE or other option - need to investigate further.

Could post a wanted ad in the classifieds section - a number dedicated track build owners may have the part sitting in a box.

FCP Euro doesn't show fitment with the Z4M on that part (E36 M3 fitment, etc).

Does it have a standalone unique design? Real OEM shows PN 64509182799.

It did for me, that was how I found it - specifying Z4M first before searching.

My car is at the dealer right now for this very issue - diagnosed as the Integrated Power Supply Module (whatever that is).
