Possible RacingBrake Group Buy

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Interest thread for RacingBrake group buy. These are two-piece, floating, stock replacement brakes for the Z4Ms. see link here )

They're currently out of production, but if there's a strong enough interest, they will reproduce them. The Hack has a review of them somewhere on this forum. These rotors have lasted him through years of tracking and auto-x.

Currently, for our cars, performance floating rotor wise, it's either stock or BBK. With these, when you go through the rotors, you can replace just the rotor without replacing the hat as well. (cheaper)

Racing Brake is also developing rear rotors for our cars as well. I don't have prices yet, but I expect a group buy will be tens of dollars cheaper than the listed price on their website.

would this be a problem in future, or are the rotors alone a standard product?

^that link shows both front and rear.

That's a good question on future availability of rotors. Look like nice pieces though.

I would hope they would stock up on replacement rotors. I've alerted one of their sales guys to this post, so hopefully he or a dealer can chime in.

I just want some upgraded rotors without having to go BBK.

I'm in. By the time a GB is green-lit, I should be in the market for rotors

The rings are a standard replacement size, it's the hubs they don't stock.

The rears are still under development. The issue here is, the pad backing plate will come in contact with the fastener hardware as it is currently engineered, there's just no way to engineer and fabricate the hub with the limited space available AND retain the OEM parking brake. The solution right now is, to either keep a very close eye on your pad wear to make sure it doesn't wear down to the minimum, or get a new set of rear pads with a slightly different backing plate shape.

But since the rear rotors are the same as the E46 M3, you can guarantee that this is on their top list of priority to resolve, since the E46 M3 is a big market.

p.s.: If you want a big group for a bigger discount, I suggest you cross post this on E46 M3 forums as well, since the CSL/ZCP packages uses the same rotors. Also mention to the E46 M3 guys that all they need to run this larger front rotor size is the ZCP caliper bracket, PN 34112282619.

That's good to know about the rings being a standard size.

It looks like (on their website at least) they have regular non-comp m3 fitments in stock; arn't those hubs the same as ours? If they stock replacement rotors, wouldn't it be easy for them to switch out the rotors for the replacement rotors and make a quick buck for us z4M or M3 competition package guys?

No they're not the same. Dimensionally, they're identical. However, ZCP and MZ4 spindle has 2 additional pins on the hub that "centers" the rotor hub onto the wheel spindle. If you look at the hub, there's 5 large holes and 3 (or 5, I don't recall) small holes, the two pins go into two of those holes while the last hole is for the set screw.

See the two small pins in the picture above on the top/left hand side of the rotor hat? There's only 1 pin and 1 set screw for the run-of-the-mill E46 M3.

Normal M3 rotor:

ZCP/CSL/MZ4 rotor:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...23&hg=34&fg=07

So the reverse is true, you can fit ZCP/MZ4 brake onto regular E46 M3 spindle. But regular E46 M3 rotors won't fit ZCP/MZ4.
