I'm sure he thought he was creating a rival for the Oletha, steal some of those sales from them.

Amongst other things...what's with the 'wheel spacers' on the side indicators and fuel filler cap?

Maybe it will look better once they've finished the kit/conversion...as they seem to have completely missed the rear end...and those modern LED lights at the front don't do anything for the 'retro' look.

A bit of filler and smoothing and it will be fine

I always wonder how serious are builds like these.
I always think cars like these will never leave the prototype stadium.
Even with that Oletha....they say no more than 100 will be built, but my guess is that it'll never exceed 5-10 or so.

And in the end, you have an expensive car (in terms of the Oletha....a very expensive car), but what is basically in technical terms still a parts bin car.
Because that's what BMW is good at, making a parts bin roadster or coupe that offers a lot of features for a good price.
Lifting it prisewise into ferrari or 911 gt3rs territory (in case of the Oletha), doesn't mean it'll compete with those cars.
Sure oletha can fit a bigger engine than stock, but the undercarriage&running gear is still from a car that is 1 or 2 steps lower.
A bigger engine (s65 v8), BBK and coilover set improves the car, but not to $400k+ ferrari&porsche territory.

A lot going on there. Proof that more isn't necessarily better. Maybe it's an acquired taste....

The red on the roadster is very nice.

Other than that, I wholeheartedly agree with the comments above. One other point- the side marker / turn signal / bmw emblem on the side of our cars was frequently a source of intense criticism when these cars came out. I am gobstruck that this redo addresses that by doubling down to add another massively uglier one that is sunk into that bizarre triangular cutout. It’s awful.

I still think the OEM coupe looks better. Wouldn't mind the engine upgrade though.

People tell me now and then that my '06 coupe looks like a James Bond car. That looks like a James Bond car.

I may keep that picture to show people…who comment that the Z4 really isn’t that good looking.

That’s truly offensive.

You must be talking about the Oletha, the first pic is Inspector Gadget's car.
