5E38

2005 Z4 3.0i. I am getting intermittent dash lights BRAKE - ABS - TPM (all yellow). There seems to be no pattern, and I can take the car to run local errands - 5 or 6 stops - and during 1 or 2 I’ll have the warning lights, the other times I won’t. Sometimes from a cold start in the morning; other times not.

My code reader shows 5E38, which I believe is the yaw sensor. Removal and replacement seems straight forward (after pulling the driver’s seat). Before I dive in, is it logical that this is an intermittent issue? I was thinking if the sensor is failing it would stop working along all at once. The battery is new (May). Could it be the alternator? I’m thinking if the alternator isn’t putting out enough then it could be throwing phantom codes.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I had same problem and in addition my radio volume would reset constantly. It ended up being my alternator. When I pulled the codes it was for various voltage issues. I ended up replacing my whole alternator but I was reading that a cheaper alternative is to replace the voltage regulator part of the alternator which is what causes these issues and that's a lot cheaper than a whole $250 alternator.

5E38 and those dash lights can also indicate a failing DSC module. I sent mine out to Module Masters for rebuild, recommended.
