Servicing front wheel bearings on Z4M Roadster

Hey Folks,

I am looking to install a brake cooling kit. I have an AP Racing BBK installed, and when I did so I needed to trim back the dust shield.

Now that I am going to be going back in there, I would like to completely remove the old dust shield. I understand this requires removal of the front hubs.

From my understanding, the bearings cannot really be removed and re-used, so should be replaced when removing hub and, as a result, the whole hub assembly should be replaced.

Is that a correct understanding?

For my 2006 Z4M Roadster, I am considering using this kit from ECS:

Does that look like the right kit?

You can just cut the thing off without removing the hubs. That’s what I did on my previous car when I installed ducting and new backing plate.

OP, yes you should replace hubs, yes that's the proper kit. Check out DIY's online if you need help. That kit is nice because it comes with the Socket you need.

Yeah I think I will remove the remnants of the cut up dust shields, necessitating pulling the hubs. Seems cleaner when installing the brake ducting. At ~55k miles, so a front wheel bearing service for a tracked car seems reasonable?
