Help me get into my car, please!

2003 Z4, 115K. Passenger door won't open via remote or manually. Lock button moves with both interior and exterior handle, does not engage latch.

If I lock the car with the remote, hit the door button twice, the passenger side lock clicks and cycles twice.

Tried with window up and in various positions of down.

Can I use a slim jim type device to open the door? Or do I have to attempt removing the door panel with the door closed to access the defective actuator?

If you can get to the point where both doors are unlocked -and you have a power top - press and hold the door unlock button on the key until the top lowers all the way. You have to keep holding the door unlock button all the way through the lowering cycle.

OR insert the key in the door and turn to the unlock position and hold until the roof lowers completely.

I'm confused with the problem, and with the first reply lol

So the passenger door won't open even though the lock 'nib' is going up and down properly? Sounds like the door handle has become disconnected from the latch and is not related to the lock itself.

Not sure what the top going up/down has to do with it, but maybe its a secret trick I don't know about!

That sounds to me like a mechanical problem with the levers inside the door. I'd take the door panel off and have a look to see if something has become disconnected or unattached. Door panels can be tricky to remove, so you might have to engage the services of a technician.

Thanks, everyone. Sorry if I was unclear. It's only the passenger door, and yes, it does seem as though I need to get the panel off, but trying to do that with a closed door is way beyond my skill level.

Garage List
With the window down look down inside with a flashlight and see if there's something broke/disconnected, compare to working drivers side. With the window down, maybe you can use a stiff wire or jimmy to release the latch? I have no clue, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

At least you'll get some alone time

You were very clear when you entitled your post: "Help me get into my car, please!"
Everyone reading that clear plea for help was sure you needed advice about getting into your car.
Even me.

Hey it’s a new “no freeloaders” feature
