This "bracket" so it's been called, was found in the engine bay, found it laying on the underbody shield that sits below the engine. I took it in for an oil change at an independent shop and this is what they found.
A bit of history with the vehicle. This is a new e85 to us. We purchased from my wife's uncles estate. He past away a few months ago. He was the original owner of this 2005 Z4 with only 30,900 miles. We have no maintenance records to speak of at this time. I may be able to get ones from the early years from the dealer but I doubt has been serviced there recently. The car runs great. However, there are some issues with the vehicle. Specifically air conditioning not working. Electrical issues which I believe may be related to a faulty/malfunctioning airbag module in center console based on my forum review. Thanks in advance! Matt

Looks like a bracket/support for the front of the splash tray.

I hope you got a nice price from your wife's uncle's estate. I recently purchased a 2008 Z4 with 39,000 miles, and it is my impression that Z4s of that age with few miles can command a premium in today's used car market, and are great fun to own and drive.
My suggestion would be to take the car to an independent mechanic that specializes in BMWs, or at least foreign cars generally. The air conditioning can be fixed, and is worth doing. BMW electrical systems can have unusual quirks, so you want a mechanic familiar with the car to find out what's wrong electrically. Usually dealership shops are very expensive. I was fortunately steered to a BMW only shop, and they looked over my car for a very reasonable price. Also, even though I purchased the car from out of town, they were able to access its service records online, which was full of good news, as the car was in excellent shape. If this car sat unattended for a while, it needs a complete inspection, followed by a nice detailing to clean it up. Next week I'm getting rid of the runflat tires and getting Continentals. They should be quieter and ride much better. I had those on a previous car, (SC430) and they were horrible. |

Based on the diagram that you included, part #7 is the oil cooler air duct, p/n 51718040587. I don't remember ever removing that part.

Thats an z4m only part; part of the oil cooler air circuit. The part he's looking for is the lower radiator sealing bracket, part# 17111436245 https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/17111436245/

Thank you all for your input. Once I had the opportunity to look at the bracket first hand I was able to look up the part number on the bracket, something the shop failed to do. It is the lower radiator bracket as Guidok has stated above.
Although the shop claims knowledge and routine work on BMWs, I regret taking it to the place I did, as they were unable to diagnose the issue with the air conditioner, believing it is an electrical related issue, beyond their capabilities. So after four days and $465 later, I came away with just an oil change. Didn't do the coolant flush either which was one of the reasons I took it in. So now I have the bracket piece laying in my trunk. Looking for a reputable place to take this vehicle in northern greater Detroit area. When I was younger, I had an 1989 e30 and I used to take it to a place called Autohaus in Royal Oak, MI. Not sure if still a good place to go? Anyone from the greater Detroit area?
