^ I just used this generic mesh and hit a coat with black rattle can

That's exactly what I've been looking for! I've hit all the hardware stores in this one horse town and can't find it. I might have to head to the big city
Where'd you find this?

(I rotated and re-sized my pics on the previous page)

If you can wait a couple days I'll check if i still have my roll and if so it's yours. You just cover shipping cost.

There is nothing out there that fits, especially with a BBK.
I have a LOT of other things on my agenda but I will be getting to this.

Just got home from a day at the track. The ducts made all the difference! Front brakes never got above 460f. Huge improvement! Previously brakes were almost 1,000 degrees. Couldn't be happier.
My day was cut short however as the car started cutting out late in the day. Almost like it shut off under full load going uphill. I'm thinking it may be fuel related. Any one have a fuel pump fail before?

I haven't heard of anyone reporting fuel pump issues.
Did you throw any codes?

Great info on brake temps.
Are you logging temps or is this a spot check after the session.

I have an infrared thermometer that I check brake and tire temps after each run. The rear brakes were hotter than the front but never got above 560f. Again they were running over 900 before so with the front brakes working better the rear stayed cooler too.

I'm starting to wonder if I might of picked up some water at my last fuel up. The station I went to not many people get gas at because of the high price and even less fill up premium I'm sure. I don't get gas there either but had to stop at that location and just decided to. No issues today until I got under a quarter tank.

BTW thanks for the tip on the tires Ian. The Direzza's worked awesome!

PM me your address, found a brand new roll that I don't need. Heck you can probably do some gutter maintenance while you're at it lol.

Thank you 3002 tii. You're quite the gentlemen 😊

Just to be clear I did not go light on the brakes I pushed and set a new personal best by over a second. Best mod to date (tires and suspension a close second) and brake cooling totally changed my track experience. If you have a heavy brake track this mod is a must do! PFC 08 pads have minimal wear. Prior to the ducts I was burning through pads like nothing and brake fade after 6 laps.

Great thread.

I've seen some aluminum subwoofer cabinet ports in my travels that would likely work a bit better then plastic to clamp down on. But I can't find them now. IF I do see them again, I will post something up.

I did this mod on the 1989 E30 M3 I use to own. It was a lot easier as there were actual kits available for the backing plates. I believe I sourced out my duct-work from the local airport repair parts desk in case any other readers were wondering where that cool looking orange duct comes from.

I'm part way through this now.
Here's the aircraft supplier where I sourced hose and flanges.
I decided to adapt the OE inlets to hose.
I also went with 2.5" hose for easier routing into the OE inlets.
will update when done......

It's funny. Every time I have an idea for the m coupe I search the forums and boom! Someone is currently working on it! Part of why I love this community!

What backing plates did you end up using?

I haven't done it yet.
I will either fab my own or just cut up the OE plate temporarily.
I don't think its worth buying plates as you will just end up cutting them up anyway.

That's what I was thinking, that it may be easier just to weld a collar to the existing backing plate to accept the tubing. Thanks.

But that way won't direct the air to center of rotor

I think it may be possible, but that is what will determine whether I chop up the oe or start from scratch.

So bumping this.

Seems like there are 3 options for backing plates, none being directly bolt on (thank Bmw for making our car a mismatch of pieces)

-modified e36
-modified e46
-custom

E46 has been proven in this thread to work, but with abou as much modification as starting from scratch. I'm going to go that route. Mock up in cardboard, then transfer to sheet metal and get some track days on them. Then a final carbon iteration if I think it's worth it. Only problem with carbon is that ambient temps of this area will be hot!! That means either high temp resins, particularly infusion based, or pre preg. I have both currently so who knows what I will go with. Pre preg will be all out variant.
