Supercharger for track?

Anyone here tracks your z with SC?
If so, which brand/model
Does it overheat? After how many laps? What temps?
How many tracks you do a year?
Any issues?
Videos? Lol
Thanks!

Tracked my car only once with the sc installed.
Have a G-power SK-1 SC.
Tracked it for 5 hours (30min. runs followed by 15 min breaks). No heat issues at all.
Temp was solid around 95 degrees Celcius.

might be a good idea to mention what cooling options you have, ie Inter-cooler, meth, water to air, killer chiller? etc..

Wow that's impressive. I wish they were still making the kit.
What fuel octane do you use?
Thanks for sharing

Yes, ESS VT2-525. You need add cooling, you’ll need to remove the AC condenser at least.

I’m currently rebuilding the engine...dropped off new Carillo pistons earlier today. Dropped a rod from a broken valve spring about a month ago.

which pistons did you go for? stock or low compression?

I used 102 (RON) octane but since this is not available anymore in the Netherlands I use 98 RON instead (is 93 in US).

Stock compression on the pistons. The previous motor was built by Lang, we are reusing the crank and the cams...everything else is basically at the machine shop or going in new. Hopefully will be up and running in a few weeks.

I’ll stay on topic. A lot more cooling. Upgrade the oil and water cooling, remove the AC. The motor will be fine.

The additional power is nice and makes the car super quick compared to stock...I still use the stock coupe from time to time as a comparison. If anything is negative about the S.C....the car is more tire limited than before. It’s tail happy stock with 275...you can’t get more tire without a lot of fender work. Just requires some more patience and knowing where you can actually use the extra power, otherwise the car will just go sideways faster that it normally does.

About the engine issue. Was it due to the sc?

Hi Vanne. I’m definitely following your build, would love to be at the track when you roll it out.

The broken spring was not due to SC. Just wear, hard wear mind you, but still just wear. Some of the other top hats showed some pitting as well. We think the hat actually split and then the spring broke, dropping the valve...it all happened during an at the limiter 5th gear shift at Road America. I did 384 miles the first day, which worked out to something like 94 laps, in 98 degree heat all weekend...so the engine can take it. It held until the middle of the last run that weekend, so I suppose that was good.

You will not pass emissions, at least not with the ESS version I have. So if that is important, perhaps look at the different vendors. Guys like Pokey Britches have way more experience...perhaps send him a PM.

If you haven’t upgraded the rear diff to 3.9 or 4.1, I would honestly do that first for track work. 3rd gear is for most people the lowest gear they will use, second is typically too low to be usable and/or worth the extra shift in a manual. A taller diff will help with some extra torque in 3rd that can cut a lot of time for our cars.

AriuSen...just posting some info here since it is sorta still on topic.

It’s back to life now and feels pretty good. Obviously the upper and lower were toast, so a donor engine was used. Had it bored 0.25 over stock so we can bore it once more in the future for the next rebuild...hopefully get 4-5 years use out of this one. That may seem like a short time, but we are still putting 35-40 days per year in. That may slow a little this year as I’ve also purchased an AER car...did a 24-hour Champ event in September and it was a riot running VIR at full speed in the country-dark woods of Danville. Google Ryan Stint 1 or Stint 2 if you want to watch some. I blew a clutch around 11pm, we changed it out in about an hour and put it back in the track (this is not the Z).

We put the Z all back together and it cranked right up. No need to retune anything with respect to the SC. Other than the new pistons, some DLC followers, a new oil pump and pan, and some ARP bolts, we reused the Carillo rods and some other bits and pieces. I had the crank polished and balanced, but it had already been modified by Lang, so not much to do there. I upgraded some bushings throughout the suspension, motor, diff and trans while waiting on some engine parts.

Couple of pics.
