brakes

so my brakes light came on the other day and I called the stealer for a quote to have them serviced, referring to my brakes. I was told that it would be about $1000 for the service, just wondering if I should order the parts from tischer and do it myself. I know that blacksapphire has swaped his brakes and was wondering if he had someone do it for him. Are there any special tools required to do the job or is it a simple swap? One more thing, when i talked to the SA, he told me that the sensors get replaced as well as the pads and rotors. Any help is greatly appericiated.

hahaha $1000 is laughable I do everything my self...why go to the dealer?

complete set of brakes on ebay(decent quality) can be had for under $300 shipped and sensors are like $20 at the dealer per piece. I decided not to replace mine as I didn't feel like getting to the wiring harness in the rear lol

if you can find someone selling 330 or z4 3.0 front brakes(carrier and all) buy it. It's best, inexpensive upgrade you'll do to your brake system. ABSOLUTELY huge difference between 2.5 brakes and 3.0 brakes!

Tools Required
17/16mm wrench/socket(wheels and caliper carriers), rubber mallet(NOT steel hammer to bang out the rotors which are probably stuck) set of good torx/allen socket(for the rotor screw and calipers) and while you are in there, adjust the parking brakes and apply the white lithium grease if there is noise when getting in and out while parking brake engaged)

and a good time to do tire rotation too

OHH and brake fluid flush as well

Thanks BlackSapphire, sounds simple enough. What do you mean by adjusting the parking brake, to make it less tight or tighten it?

tighten it... but since it doesnt' get used all that often, shouldn't need to touch it unless its real loose.
