Z4 Coupe: Clear 3rd Brake Light?

well its obviously the same part- just clear... why would they sell a red brake light and claim it was clear??

now a BMW promo print but an actual Z4 Coupe with a clear tail light,

and not chopped either

I called and the guy assured me that its a clear third brake light for a z4 coupe. He's even verifying it with bmw since its a bmw part. He said I could send it back no problem if its not and I even sent him the pic of the blue m in the thread.

I stand corrected. I just received an email from the seller- it ended up being red. The supplier claims that clear "is no longer available"

My research has indicated that E85 Roadsters came with clear lenses and E86 coupes came with red lenses. I have some promotional posters of both the Roadster and the Coupe which confirms this. The part is identical, with the only difference being whether the lens is clear or red. The panel of LED lights inside lights up red in either case, producing a red stoplight. The lights are therefore interchangeable, if you are replacing it, pick whichever color you like, or whichever one is available, unless you are a stickler for correctness.

I replaced the clear lens on my 2016 M Roadster about a week ago with an OEM clear lens I sourced from getbmwparts.com. There are lots of clear and red lenses available on eBay, Amazon, and other online retailers for considerably less than OEM, but I didn't find one where a good percentage of people didn't complain about the fit, particularly on the corners. Mine fits just like the one I removed.

The E85 Roadster and E86 Coupe do not share a third brake light, the shape is very different and not interchangeable (the coupe is wider).

The Coupe light is only, and has only ever been available in red.

The Roadster light was/is available in red or clear, as the colour changed based on the model. Not sure if it's tied to engine or production year, or LCI/pre-LCI, but I know all Z4M Roadsters were factory equipped with a clear third brake light.
