Earlier released info on Canadian pricing was slightly off. The new Z4 M40i is advertised here for $87700! plus 13% sales tax, etc , etc. The four banger Z4 30i is advertised for $72500! The lease rate on the M40 is over $1600 a month! I think BMW may have priced themselves out of the market. At these rates Im never selling.

On the upside, if BMW Canada wants to sell any of these cars up here, they will need to give serious discounts or watch em rust on the lot.

Drove the Z430i and I have to say it drove better than I thought it would. Interior is a nice place to be, engine had lots of grunt at low end and steering and turning was very nice. Automatic was a bit clunky on the upshifts though; banged into the gears without rev matching creating a recoil like effect like when you shift a manual and just let the clutch out without giving it enough gas. Electric steering much, much improved over 2/3/4 series.

Is it worth the price they are commanding? If you like the tech thats all good and it wouldn't surprise me if it drives better than the last Z4 gen. Would love to try the Z4M40i version. If this thing came with a manual it would be deadly. Is it as much fun as a Z4 M Roadster? If it came with a manual it could be close. But Z4MR is 1/3rd the price so I'd say no.

I had a chance to look at one of these up close on Friday when I was getting my summer tires and rims installed on my X5. While I didn't drive the new Z4, I have to say that the interior is very well done and it just drips quality. It was also apparent that the build quality is very high as everything was exceptionally solid. On the styling side, my jury is still out on that question. From some angles, it looks alright. From others, it looks like it was designed by the same bunch of Japanese motorcycle guys who brought us the first generation of Suzuki Katana bikes back in the day. The design is very angular and mechanical with lots of straight lines and sharp corners, particularly when viewed from the front. In fact, I would say that it has a cold feel that is quite unlike the long, curved, swooping and almost organic lines of the E85 and E86.
