I owned llamas for 30+ years and never had an alpaca. The two animals are closely related; the llama was bred for size and carrying capability in mountainous terrain while the alpaca was bred for fine quality fiber.

This is just about the wooliest alpaca I have ever seen. That fiber is valuable.

I was a little tired when I read your post, and I misread it first as “This is just about the wooliest Alcantara I have ever seen.” And I thought, you’re redoing your car’s interior in brown wool?

The long neck, the relatively short legs. It reminded me a little bit of a two-person horse costume, and the zebra costume from the original The Pink Panther movie, with David Niven, Peter Sellers, Robert Wagner. There are two detectives in that zebra costume.

Pretty mellow. The males can fight a bit when with other males. The usual arrangement is all the females in one pasture and the males either in individual small pastures to avoid drama, or if they're laid-back, all in another pasture together.

And that Pink Panther clip is one of my favorites of all time!
